For those not in the know and wondering: Hansa is a church. Many of rock'n'roll's saints and idols have done ground-breaking work in this particlar Studio in (West-)Berlin. This is where IGGY POP recorded “Lust for Life”. Classics such as NICK CAVE's “Your Funeral, My Trial” and WIRES's “The Ideal Copy” and hundreds of others were all created here. DEPECHE MODE, THE PIXIES, KILLING JOKE, EINSTÜRZENDE NEUBAUTEN, FAD GADGET, SIOUXSIE AND THE BANSHEES, THE PSYCHEDLIC FOURS, ZARAH LEANDER… these are just a few of the names who have worked at Hansa. And, of course, DAVID BOWIE. The walls and carpeted floors of Hansa Studio have sucked up so much rock'n'roll grandeur… it probably only compares to London's Abbey Road.

"Hotspot" was mostly recorded in Hansa Studios, Berlin, and mixed in The Record Plant, Los Angeles. It was produced and mixed by Stuart Price and features ten brand new Tennant/Lowe tracks including the single "Dreamland" featuring Years & Years, which was released in September. Another of the songs, "Burning the heather", features Bernard Butler on guitar and was recorded at RAK Studios in London.Pet Shop Boys say: "We've written much of our music over the last ten years in Berlin and it was an exciting experience to work on this album in the legendary Hansa studios there and add a new dimension to our sound."The album is the last instalment of the trilogy of PSB albums produced by Stuart Price, following "Electric" in 2013 and "Super" in 2016

EARLY FM BROADCAST FROM BASILDON S FINEST Formed in 1980 in deepest Essex - one of London s home counties - Depeche Mode was originally made up of Dave Gahan, Martin Gore, Andy Fletcher and - for a short while - Vince Clarke. The group released their first album Speak & Spell in 1981, which took them onto the British charts and the upcoming New Romantic scene. Clarke left after the release of their debut, so they recorded its follow up, A Broken Frame, as a trio. Gore took over as main songwriter and, later in 1982, Alan Wilder replaced Clarke, establishing a line-up that continued for 13 years. For their third album, Construction Time Again, Depeche worked with producer Gareth Jones at John Foxx s Garden Studios, and at Hansa Studios in West Berlin (where David Bowie s trilogy of seminal electronic albums featuring Brian Eno had been produced).
