Tomorrow Today (1969). Hardin & York's debut album was quite competent yet derivative early progressive rock, and derivative of Traffic in particular. At least, however, it came by its influences quite honestly, Pete York having drummed behind Steve Winwood in the Spencer Davis Group, and Eddie Hardin having joined the Spencer Davis Group after Winwood left. And the duo does get quite a lot of sound out of their keyboards and drums, although they had plenty of backup from some session musicians. Hardin sings and writes uncannily like Winwood circa Traffic's "Forty Thousand Headmen" period, but while that's a good standard to shoot for, therein also lies the problem: it's not quite as good as the Winwood-paced Traffic, and certainly not as original…

The unusual power duo of keyboardist/vocalist Eddie Hardin and drummer Pete York made a few albums in the late '60s and early '70s, and were aptly described as a cross between Traffic and Procol Harum. They leaned closer to Traffic than Procol Harum, with their blend of hard rock, soul, progressive, and jazz influences; the swirl and swell of Hardin's Hammond organ; and Hardin's Stevie Winwood-esque vocals. And they came by that Traffic influence honestly: York had played alongside Winwood in the Spencer Davis Group before Winwood formed Traffic, and Hardin joined the Spencer Davis Group on keyboards and vocals after Winwood's departure. Following the successful Hardin & York reissue programme of 1994, when RPM transferred to CD the duo's important original albums, and after the interest these generated - particularly in their former stronghold of Germany - it seemed a natural progression to go on and record something new, hence "Still A Few Pages Left…", that difficult fourth album.

After independently leaving The Spencer Davis Group in late 1968, organist and singer Eddie Hardin and drummer Pete York got back together a few months later to work as that most intriguing of late Sixties rock music concepts: the power duo.
Self-described as “the world's smallest big band”, Hardin & York's two-man brand of rock, blues, jazz and soul – not a million miles away from the likes of Traffic or Procol Harum - was hugely popular on the Continent. Indeed, they had such a following in Germany that one show was surreptitiously taped, becoming one of the earliest European vinyl bootlegs when it was sneaked out in 1970.
Naturally enough, that live set is included on our definitive 6-CD anthology, together with further live performances (including a 1972 show for the BBC now gaining its first-ever commercial release), their trio of 1969-71 albums, various studio out-takes and even a non-UK 1974 reunion LP that was recorded with former Taste bassist Charlie McCracken. A 6-CD package, Can't Keep A Good Man Down is the final word on one of the most intriguing musical partnerships of the late Sixties/early Seventies. Housed in a stylish clamshell box, it includes a 24-page booklet with rare photos, a new 4000 word essay on the duo as well as a scene-setting foreword by Pete York.

Roger Glover, Ronnie James Dio, Jon Lord, David Coverdale, Tony Ashton, Glenn Hughes, Ray Fenwick, Eddie Hardin, John Lawton, and many many more… Deep Purple have always been known for their contributions to the hard rock genre. Despite this heavy reputation, the individual members have all worked outside the rock field from time to time on solo material or sessions, exploring different and often seemingly unlikely musical avenues. This two-disc set brings two such projects together for the first time. Butterfly Ball, masterminded by Deep Purple bassist Roger Glover shortly after he had left the band, forms the first half of the set and features appearances from many well known rock musicians. Glover also turns up on The Wizard's Convention, which forms the rest of this package. Eddie Hardin brought Glover together with the then current Deep Purple members Jon Lord, Glenn Hughes, David Coverdale and numerous other guests. Side by side this material forms a fascinating side line to the Deep Purple story.
