Prodigious pianist Harold López-Nussa has come full circle. With numerous acclaimed recordings, and acknowledged as a seasoned performer on international stages, he returns home and records El Viaje in Havana, Cuba, offering musical insights on the world through his piano. Continuing with his established trio format, which includes his brother Ruy Adrián López-Nussa on drums and Senegalese bassist Alune Wade, he improvises upon vast classical influences while adhering to his Cuban roots, concocting an exceptional style of global jazz.

Harold was born in a family of musicians in Cuba: he is the nephew of the famous pianist Ernan Lopez Nussa and the son of the drummer Ruy Lopez Nussa. This 24 years old pianist profits, like all the members of his family, of a double upbringing, Cuban and French through his grand mother. Harold is now finishing his musical education at the Instituto Superior de Arte after a solid classical basis obtained at the Amadeo Roldan academy of music In Cuba he is the winner of many classical piano contests, presents himself as a soloist in all the theatres of the island . Rapidly Harold opened up to traditional and popular music as well as jazz and started to play with the best musicians of the Island. And now he focuses on jazz, his true passion.

As scion of an illustrious musical family, the 29-year-old Cuban pianist Harold Lopez-Nussa is one of the brightest lights on Havana’s thriving jazz scene. Son of drummer Ruy Lopez-Nussa and nephew of pianist Ernan Lopez-Nussa, Harold gained international attention when he won top honors at the prestigious Montreux Jazz Piano Competition in 2005.

Pianist and composer Harold López-Nussa has been steadily building a global following in jazz and beyond over the past two decades since winning the prestigious Montreux Jazz Piano Competition in 2005. López-Nussa has released nine acclaimed albums and captivated audiences across the world with his thrilling performances at esteemed venues and jazz festivals. Born into a musical family in Havana, Cuba, his music reflects the full range and richness of the Cuban musical tradition with its distinctive combination of classical, folkloric, and popular elements, as well as its embrace of improvisation. Cuban-born pianist Harold Lopez-Nussa is back in his native land for his latest album, New Day. On most of the album’s ten tracks, all original compositions, he works with his brother Ruy Adrian Lopez-Nussa on drums and longtime colleague Gaston Joya on double bass. A couple of tracks add the trumpet of Mayquel Gonzalez. For the first time, it seems, Lopez-Nussa also plays the Fender Rhodes on a few compositions.
