A magical proposition from the start, PORTRAIT somehow tapped into heavy metal's unerringly atavistic principles without ever sounding like some self-consciously retro knockoff. Along with WOLF's "Evil Star" and a handful of others, the Swedes' self-titled 2008 debut album gave substance and sustenance to the welcome return of old-school clangor in the 21st century, with some much-needed mystique and malevolence thrown in as a bonus. Vocalist Per Lengstedt's KING DIAMOND-saluting shriek was simply the blood-spattered icing on the cake…

Many albums have scaled to the top of the American charts, many of them not so good, but few have been as widely forgotten and spurned as REO Speedwagon's Hi Infidelity. In a way, the group deserved this kind of success. They had been slogging it out in the arenas of the U.S., building up a sizeable audience because they could deliver live. And then, in 1980, they delivered a record that not just summarized their strengths, but captured everything that was good about arena rock. This is the sound of the stadiums in that netherworld between giants like Zeppelin and MTV's slick, video-ready anthems.

"The Broadway Album" is the 24th studio album by director, composer, actress and singer Barbra Streisand, released by Columbia Records on November 4, 1985. Consisting mainly of classic show tunes, the album marked a major shift in Barbra Streisand's career. Streisand had spent ten years appearing in musicals and singing standards on her albums in the 1960s. Beginning with the album "Stoney End" in 1971 and ending with the album "Emotion" in 1984, Streisand sang mostly rock, pop, folk, and disco-oriented songs for Columbia Records. Noted Broadway composer Stephen Sondheim personally penned additional lyrics for the songs "Putting It Together" and "Send in the Clowns" on request of the singer. The album, originally released on the Columbia label and subsequently re-released by Columbia and Sony Records, was a critical and commercial success. First certified Gold by the RIAA on January 13, 1986, it reached four times Platinum on January 31, 1995.

Mr. Bad Guy is the first solo album from Queen singer, Freddie Mercury. Released in 1985, during a period in which Queen were on hiatus from recordings, it contains eleven songs, all written by him. It was dedicated "to my cat Jerry—also Tom, Oscar and Tiffany, and all the cat lovers across the universe—screw everybody else". For the album, Mercury compiled influences ranging from disco to dance music. It was a contrast to typical Queen work, as they were rock-orientated. The album took nearly two years to record as Mercury had to gather enough material, while committing to band activities. Initially, the album was supposed to feature duets with Mercury and Michael Jackson.

Jaki made her singing debut at the school’s Christmas talent contest with Michael Jackson’s Ben and won with a clear victory. From then on, it was only a matter of time before she would sign her first record deal. The first band she joined was One Night Affair at the age of 17, followed by the SRO Band and then Ferrari. One day, Jaki recorded a session for a jazz funk group called Medium Wave Band and it is from this that she was spotted by talent scout, Brian Freshwater and signed with EMI in 1983. It took EMI to channel her image and style into the correct direction, to form the soul seductress she is today. Her single entitled "What’s the Name of Your Game?" gave Jaki her first TV appearance on the children’s TV programme Crackerjack. "Heaven Knows" became the title track of her debut album.

Although at least one of the three oboe concertos on this recording is almost undoubtedly spurious, this is still one of the loveliest Handel recordings ever made - gorgeous melodies, elegant but energetic playing and sound engineering that can hardly get any better.

"There's No Stopping Your Heart" is the 5th solo studio album by American country music singer Marie Osmond. It was her first album in seven years and her first album on Capitol/Curb records. Osmond's previous albums were released when she was a teenager, however this became her first album to be released as an adult. Four singles were released, including two #1 hits on the billboard hot country songs chart. Although the first single, "Until I Fall in Love Again" only reached #54 on the country singles charts it was the follow-up single "Meet Me in Montana," (a duet with Dan Seals) that landed her in the #1 position. This was her first #1 hit since her debut of "Paper Roses" in 1973. The success continued with the release of the title track which also went to #1. The fourth and final single, "Read My Lips," peaked at #4 in 1986. The album spent 43 weeks on the billboard top country album charts and reached a peak position at #16.
