Nevada Fighter kicks off with the witty and loose-limbed "The Grand Ennui," and for a moment it sounds like the album will pick up where Michael Nesmith's previous album with the First National Band, Loose Salute, left off. But before long, the album shifts gears, and it becomes obvious that Nesmith had something different in mind this time. Except for the rollicking side-closer, "Nevada Fighter," most of the material on side one suggests the more introspective moments of Magnetic South but without the same balance of charm and dry humor that made that album so appealing (though "Propinquity (I've Just Begun to Care)" is a fine love song that's a good bit more approachable than its title would lead you to expect).

The Tee Set Peter Tetteroo (vocals), Dill Dennink (guitar, flute, banjo), Joop Bloom (drums), Franklin Madjid (bass), and Hans Van Eijck (keyboards) was one of a handful of acts from Holland that made it onto the American charts in the late 1960s; others included the Shocking Blue ("Venus") and the George Baker Selection ("Little Green Bag"), both of whom had the same American representative, Jerry Ross. Recorded in 1969, "Ma Belle Amie" was a pleasant piece of pop/rock first issued in Holland, where it sold 100,000 copies (a major hit in the small Dutch market). "Ma Belle Amie" was heard by Ross and licensed for release in America, where it became their only major hit.

Following the collapse of Dali's Car, Murphy embarked on a solo career in earnest, fortuitously hooking up with Howard Hughes, who had been working with fellow cult artists the Associates. With 4AD label head Ivo Watts-Russell drafted in to produce and guest musicians popping in as desired, Murphy and Hughes created a slightly fragmentary but still intriguing record. Caught between his recent past (the use of fretless bass on "Canvas Beauty" was a dead giveaway that he missed working with Mick Karn) and his eventual solo successes, Murphy concentrates here mostly on breaking free of the goth stereotype in which he had found himself trapped.

The only album of the band from The Hague. Created in 1965. They regularly performed in pubs and nightclubs in The Hague, performing rhythm and blues. The band caught the attention of the label "Polydor", which signed them to a contract. Their first single "Cry Me A River" (a cover of a Julie London song) reached #27 on the Top 40. After this success, the band members quit their jobs and focus solely on music. However, their second single "Can You Hear Me" did not bring them success. The group's third single "Something You Got" was recorded in September 1966 in London and reached the top of the Top 40 hit parade. Soon the group released their only album "I'll Follow You". The following year, drummer Henk van Meerbeek left the band and was replaced by Cesar Zuiderwijk (ex-"Ladybirds") and the band released a new single "Touchin' You Is Lovin' You". Then Fred de Wilde left the band to become the first (before Mariska Veres) vocalist of "Shocking Blue" and the band disbanded. On June 13, 1980, a big concert took place in The Hague, at which the newly assembled Hu And The Hilltops performed together with the bands Q 65 and Shocking Blue.

On the band's third studio release "Looking On", The Move found themselves moving forward past their hybrid Beatles/Byrds/Who psychedelic influences and more towards the harder Power Pop that both Jeff Lynne and Roy Wood would perfect on this album.
"Looking On" containing seven songs averaging six plus minutes was more in tune with the Progressive Rock movement of the early 70's with tracks like "What?" forming as a precursor to the band's development into the symphonic Art-rock band Electric Light Orchestra. Also on the album are the proto Heavy Metal tracks "When Alice Goes Back To The Farm" and "Brontosaurus" and Progressive Rockers in the title track and the prophetically influential "Open Up Said The World To The Door" which predates the innovative zaniness of bands like Split Enz, 10cc, Roxy Music and Queen.
