Non è andata proprio come mi aspettavo. Di solito il colpo di fulmine non si trasforma istantaneamente in odio. Ma è esattamente quello che è successo quando l'uomo affascinante e super sexy che ho conosciuto in un locale si è rivelato essere un bugiardo imbroglione senza un briciolo di buonsenso. Idiota. Mi ha persino chiamata "sociopatica", che stronzo. Adesso, tre mesi dopo, per una serie di eventi assurdi che non avrei saputo prevedere nemmeno in un milione di anni, viene fuori che il mio capo sta per sposare la sorella di quel cretino alle Hawaii e io devo essere carina con lui per un intero weekend, se non voglio rischiare di perdere il lavoro. Mi toccherà fare buon viso a cattivo gioco e far finta di non averlo mai conosciuto. Anche se lo odio. Profondamente. Vorrei solo che il cervello spiegasse al mio corpo che è un bastardo… Perché ogni volta che tira fuori uno di quei sorrisi irresistibili devo chiamare a raccolta tutto il mio autocontrollo per non saltargli letteralmente addosso.

The Vienna Art Orchestra is a 15-member jazz orchestra that features the avant-garde arrangements and compositions of its leader, pianist Mathias Ruegg. This is a reissue of their 1980 debut, an important document in the post-modern jazz movement. The opening, title track is a joyous, folkish tango that's been cartoonishly toyed with, featuring three solo sections. The marimba section is also ornamented with vocalese from Lauren Newton, followed by an extremely playful horn lead that sounds like a toy instrument. The solo offering from violinist Rudi Berger has an electronically effected fusion sound. A tight, alto sax solo by Wolfgang Puschnig ties everything together neatly with a lengthy, unaccompanied performance.

After a long period of neglect, Handel's 1719 opera Ottone has attracted renewed attention from historical-performance groups. The opera deals with episodes from the life of Otto II, Holy Roman Emperor in the 10th century, a topic so obscure that even for an 18th century audience an "argument" had to be attached to the libretto by way of background information. The opera was highly successful in Handel's own time, perhaps less for its musical value than for the always fun news stories about the stars in Handel's orbit; this time the feature was soprano Francesca Cuzzoni, who refused to sing the aria "Falsa imagine" until Handel threatened to throw her out a window.
