20 years of love & hate – still going strong after 2 hot-blooded decades on Out Of Line Music, the Mexican hard-electro-pioneers Hocico are now finally getting a long overdue special “best of” release! There are few groups that can claim to have played a major role in shaping an entire genre, but Erk Aicrag and Racso Agroyam, better known as Hocico, did just that. The duo not only put Mexico on the map for an entire scene (…previously only associated with tequila and sombreros), but also managed to become a game changer for the dark side of electronic music with a new blend of hard beats, unbridled anger, aggressive shouts and creative sonic wizardry. Appearing virtually out of nowhere, this unique and fresh sound hit us like a fist straight into our collective gut, inspiring a plethora of other musicians in the whole world and quickly conquering scene-related clubs and discos around the globe.
Since the debut “Odio Bajo El Alma” Hocico stand for destruction, for darkness and pure aggression. Their kind of industrial has always been dirtier and more venomous, without particulate filter, music, that can only be created by Mexican Devils. “Artificial Extinction” is the highlight in this evolution: The unique Hocico sound is evolved to an even more brutal sound between Dark’N’Bass and Aggrotech. Massively pounding beats and roaring accelerations show a band that found strength never known before.
Steam from overloaded factory smokestacks darken the sky, the infernal heat of a furnace spreads around and lightnings from moaning machine mouths set the atmosphere on fire - „Artificial Extinction“ is the acoustic cenotaph of a humankind executing itself in its madness – and the best and most diverse album in the band history. Since the debut “Odio Bajo El Alma” Hocico stand for destruction, for darkness and pure aggression. Less than two years after their last album, legendary Mexican Electro duo Hocico is once again filling the air with their unabashedly sound and strikes hard with their full range of aggression on the band's brand new album "HyperViolent". Latently menacing and rather insidiously rough as in "Broken Empires" or wrapped in a pulsating Dark'n'Bass tune as in the recently released single "Backstabbers" - Hocico doesn't play shy on any of the 13 tracks of their new longplayer. This also counts for the bonus track “Weapons of Resistance”, which features guest vocals from Ten56 frontman Aaron Matts and which, after previous collaborations with Lord Of The Lost and Ost+Front, means another straight banger, that makes noch only the Aggrotech heart beat faster. In 2022, heavy-hitter Hocico is still going strong in pushing boundaries and breaking old conventions - or simply said: "hyper hyper"!
With their debut album “we are Kant Kino - you are not” released in 2010, the Norwegian duo took everyone by surprise and got elected to be the best EBM discovery of the year by many. Three years later, their “father worked in industry” CD reinforced their position with an even more matured production style brilliantly mixing stomping beats and melodic synths. Don’t we say that “all good things come in threes”? Well, KANT KINO definitely confirm this saying by offering us “Kopfkino” the 3rd installment signed by this epic EBM franchise.
