Don't panic here!! It's not a bass duel coming from the two most gifted bass player of the Kent county, but a sweet minor collaboration where the former (Hugh) takes on the songwriting (thus making this a Hopper album, rather than a Sinclair album) and often leaves Richard on bass, guitars and of course vocals.

Born in South Africa in 1939, flugelhorn, trumpet, and cornet virtuoso Hugh Masekela was inspired by American jazz as a young boy and served an extensive apprenticeship with some of his homeland's musical giants. In 1959, he and pianist Dollar Brand (aka Abdullah Ibrahim) formed the legendary Jazz Epistles, but after a brutal government crackdown on political opposition, Masekela and a host of other artists and intellectuals fled the country. A long but fruitful period followed, during which he worked with Yehudi Menuhin, Dizzy Gillespie, Miles Davis, Harry Belefonte, Miriam Makeba (his ex-wife), Herb Alpert, and Paul Simon, consolidating his reputation abroad.

With dancing drums like a legendary New Orleans funeral band, brass full of soul, guitars that fuse every style of blues and folk, Hugh Coltman has built himself a sublime backdrop for these eleven songs over which his warm journeyman's voice expresses his deep understanding of human emotions and sentiments, an indulgent listen for evening lovers, loners at dawn or the melancholic listener at midday… Who’s Happy?, his new album asks. Everyone and no-one, he seems to reply…

On his new album "Night Trippin' (Tribute to Dr. John)", singer and Parisian-by-choice Hugh Coltman joins guitarist Matthis Pascaud for a joint tribute to the legendary jazz, blues and rock 'n' roll singer Dr. John. The American musician and six-time Grammy Award winner was considered the most important and almost the only representative of "Voodoo Rock" and was strongly influenced by the folklore of his hometown New Orleans.Together, Coltman and Pascaud explore the works of the early Sixties period of the legendary pianist and singer from Louisiana. With "Night Trippin'" they dive deep into the world of voodoo blues and reach the roots of jazz and rock.

Boccherini's stature as a great composer stands chiefly on his works for cello - these concertos, the cello sonatas, and above all the quintets for two violins, viola, and two cellos. The two performances by Tim Hugh and the Scottish Chamber Orchestra, produced by Naxos, may not set the bar for interpretive brilliance, but Mr. Hugh plays beautifully, with excellent tone in his highest passages, and the price is right. If you haven't given Boccherini a listener's chance, these two CDs, sold separately, might open your ears.

‘Rejoice’ is a very special collaboration between Tony Allen, the co-founder of Afrobeat, and Hugh Masekela, the master of South African jazz. Having first met in the 70s thanks to their respective close associations with Fela Kuti, the two world-renowned musicians talked for decades about making an afrobeat album together. When, in 2010, their touring schedules coincided in the UK, the moment presented itself and producer Nick Gold took the opportunity to record their encounter. The unfinished sessions, consisting of all original compositions by the pair, lay in archive until after Hugh passed away in 2018.
