Eine Oper zu erzählen ist ein ganz besonderes Abenteuer. Das gesprochene Wort soll zum einen Bilder im Kopf erzeugen, die einer Inszenierung in einem echten Opernhaus nicht nachstehen. Zum anderen sollen die Gefühle und die Spannung, die im Gesang (oft noch in einer Fremdsprache) ausgedrückt werden, nochmals in Prosa wiedergegeben werden, ohne allzu viel zu wiederholen. Das Ensemble Neue Nürnberger Ratsmusik hat Glucks Orfeo in dieser Weise bearbeitet: Wenige Sänger haben jeweils mehrere Rollen wahrzunehmen, ein Sprecher ersetzt u. a. die entfallenden Rezitative. Das Ergebnis ist hier auf COVIELLO CLASSICS zu erleben und ein gelungenes Paradebeispiel für eine fokussierte Kammerfassung.

A little-known ‘Well-Tempered Clavier’ for the 19th century in a superbly engineered new version.
Long known as Beethoven’s pupil, Liszt’s teacher and the bane of countless piano students ever since as the prolific author of exercises and studies which have won foundational status in their importance for piano technique, Carl Czerny (1791-1858) is finally gaining recognition as a composer in his own right. During the 19th century, while his pupils were still alive to play them, his concertos still enjoyed a measure of familiarity and success, but Czerny’s sheer industry obscured his creative achievements: where should a listener start with a catalogue of opus numbers into the four figures?

Sigiswald Kuijken's Bach cantata recordings, and in particular his complete series for Accent which culminated almost a decade ago now, haven't enjoyed quite the degree of international attention garnered by those of John Eliot Gardiner and Masaaki Suzuki with their own respective series, and this perhaps isn't completely surprising when Kuijken has consistently championed the one-voice-to-a-part approach. After all, even if one can get on board with one-to-a-part from a historical accuracy perspective, many find it a little harder to get on board with from a pleasure-listening angle, when the casualty of all that authenticity is textural variety – and indeed there's evidence that Bach himself was often frustrated by the slim vocal forces at his disposal.

Ihr Dokumentarfilm mit Fakten, Gedanken und Interpretationen zu einer der faszinierendsten Frauengestalten Luxemburgs im frühen 20. Jahrhundert wird begleitend zum Rezital präsentiert.

Claudio Bohórquez and Péter Nagy are releasing a new album, dedicated to that composer par excellence, Robert Schumann, and his works for chamber duo. Performing a programme comprising works from the clarinet, oboe, viola and vocal repertoires, the two renowned soloists throw renewed light on some unknown facets of a famous composer.
The key focus of the album is a central work in the field of Lieder: Schumann's Dichterliebe. Bohórquez and Nagy lure their listeners on a journey through the innermost core of Romantic emotions.
Bohórquez has a highly interesting technique, sure to fascinate not just connoisseurs of Dichterliebe, of interpreting these songs without words with such a fine level of tonal nuance and such songful bowing that they never seem like wordless songs.

Gaspar Cassado's Requiebros, dedicated to his teacher Pablo Casals, was one of the few pieces which Rohan de Saram studied with him and heard him perform many times. During the first two decades of the 20th century in Paris, Cassad came into contact with both de Falla and Ravel. Hence the inclusion of works by de Falla and Ravel on this album.
Schumann's Funf Stcke im Volkston was inspired by folk idiom as was de Falla's Suite populaire espagnole. Granados, Faure and Saint-Saens were composers closely connected either as friends or as teacher-pupil with de Falla and Ravel during that period in Paris. De Saram and Yamamoto performed this programme at the Takefu International Music Festival, Japan at the invitation of the director, the composer Toshio Hosokawa, whose Lied III formed part of the programme.
