A close friend of Bud Powell, with whom he grew up listening and absorbing the sounds of jazz and classical music. The two chums also befriended another great musical maverick, the jazz composer and pianist Thelonious Monk.

As an alto saxophonist, Lou Donaldson seemed to spend his early jazz career trying to extricate himself from being styled as a copyist of his acknowledged hero and major influence, Charlie Parker. A tricky thing to do of course, as Parker was such a huge presence on the jazz scene at the time, but as his career developed, Lou did begin to create his own, more blues orientated sound.

Hard bop pioneer Johnny Griffin began his prolifically dynamic jazz career by playing the much more sedate instruments, the clarinet and oboe! Before long however he had switched to the alto sax and was playing with no less a musician than T Bone Walker when he was just 15 years old! At 17, in 1945 he had joined Lionel Hampton’s band and it was the great vibes-man who persuaded him to take up the tenor sax.

Dorothy Donegan (April 6, 1922 – May 19, 1998) was an American jazz pianist and vocalist, primarily known for performing in the stride piano and boogie-woogie style. She also played bebop, swing jazz, and classical music. Donegan was born and grew up in Chicago, Illinois, and began studying piano in 1928. She took her first lessons from Alfred N. Simms, a West Indian pianist who also taught Cleo Brown. She graduated from Chicago's DuSable High School, where she studied with Walter Dyett, a teacher who also worked with Dinah Washington, Johnny Griffin, Gene Ammons, and Von Freeman. She also studied at the Chicago Musical College and the University of Southern California. In 1942 she made her recording debut.

Henry Jones Jr. (July 31, 1918 – May 16, 2010), best known as Hank Jones, was an American jazz pianist, bandleader, arranger, and composer. Critics and musicians described Jones as eloquent, lyrical, and impeccable. In 1989, The National Endowment for the Arts honored him with the NEA Jazz Masters Award. He was also honored in 2003 with the American Society of Composers, Authors, and Publishers (ASCAP) Jazz Living Legend Award. In 2008, he was awarded the National Medal of Arts. On April 13, 2009, the University of Hartford presented Jones with an honorary Doctorate of Music for his musical accomplishments.

'Bobby Jaspar All Stars'; 'Tenor & Flute'; 'Interplay for 2 Trumpets and 2 Tenors' plus the .E.P. 'Bobby Jaspar & Sacha Distel' and two tracks from Chet Baker 'I Got Chet'. Don't be fooled into thinking tenor saxophonist and flautist Bobby Jaspar was in the second league of jazz because he was born in Liege, Belgium! Don't forget this is the country that gave us Jacques Brel, Poirot and Tin Tin!
