Last fall, when the Matinée released the song “Dancing on Your Grave” as a preview track from its new album of the same name, one got the sense that the band had upped its game. In fact, the Vancouver-based roots-rockers sounded like a band that had fully realized its sound. According to singer Matt Layzell, this creative leap forward was born out of a time of personal upheaval for all members of the band. “We were all going through big life changes,” said Layzell via press release. “After a difficult split, I found myself disappearing on solo road trips into the wild with my dog, trying to clear my head.”
