I Remember When

When I Remember is the 2016 CD by new age artist Kevin Kern. This was released by Kevin Kern Music, which means it was made for the fans.

Remember Sports was a self-categorized “basement rock band” when they formed as a group of Kenyon College students in 2012. The band’s electrifying pop punk bonafides and the inimitable vocals of frontperson and primary songwriter Carmen Perry found them quick acclaim and a home at Father/Daughter Records.

The title of this album owes its origin to a recording session. It all took place in Studio A when the McGuire sisters got ready to record some of their favourite numbers. All the songs were standards, and each one woke an immediate response from the girls, each number recalled another place and another time. "Do you remember when we first heard Sometimes I'm Happy?" asked Phyllis, the youngest of the trio. "Of course," replied Christine. "It was when we were in high school in Middletown." "That's right," chimed in Dorothy. "But how about Blue Skies?" "Oh, that was further back," said Phyllis. "We heard that when we were kids at McKinley Junior High."

Vocalist Bonnie Baker joines Orrin Tucker and his big band to perform a selection of nostalgic songs from the old American Songbook on Remember When? This legacy collection is loving restored in high-fidelity digital formats by RKO Records.

Claude King and Johnny Horton were close friends in real life, and when Horton died King was groomed by Columbia Records to be his replacement. King had his own sound, but the two artists covered enough similar ground that King was right at home with Horton's songs. The title track is a heartfelt recitation on which King recalls Horton and their friendship, and the remainder of the album is drawn from Horton's hits (excepting a few personal favorites, like the early Horton composition "First Train Headin' South" and "She Knows Why," which Horton and King co-wrote). The historical folk song craze was itself history in 1968 when I Remember Johnny Horton was recorded, but the album's sincerity and celebration of a sadly missed friend is affecting in any era.

Wilfred Theodore "Ted" Weems (originally Wemyes) (26 September 1901 – 6 May 1963) was an American bandleader and musician. Weems' work in music was recognized with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
