In the mid- to late '70s, Michael Henderson had a reputation for being a quiet storm-oriented singer. R&B fans associated him primarily with romantic material, whether it was with Norman Connors ("Valentine Love," "You Are My Starship," "We Both Need Each Other") or on his own ("At the Concert," "Take Me, I'm Yours," "Be My Girl," "In the Night-Time"). But the success of the quirky "Wide Receiver" in 1980 reminded Henderson's admirers that he was also quite capable of delivering an aggressive funk jam. Nonetheless, romantic soul ballads and slow jams remained a high priority for him, and they dominate 1981's Slingshot (which was originally released on vinyl LP by Buddah before being reissued on CD by The Right Stuff in 1995 and Funky Town Grooves in 2011).

Concrete and Mud. Since kicking off his career with 2014's Ephemeral, Sam Morrow has seen plenty of both. With his career-defining third record, Morrow should cement his place as a member of Los Angeles' country elite. Concrete and Mud is a confident album, rooted in Texas twang, southern stomp, and old-school funky-tonk. Recorded largely live in the studio on a vintage Neve 8068 console with producer/engineer Eric Corne at the helm, it also shines a light on Morrow's strength as a songwriter, front-man, and bandleader. At 27 years old, Morrow's found his footing as an artist and appears poised to join the ranks of West Coast heavyweights like Sam Outlaw, Jade Jackson, and Morrow's friend and label mate, Jaime Wyatt whose vocals can be heard on three songs here.
[Suicidal Tendencies] Cyco Miko - Lost My Brain! (Once Again) [1995] RESTORED

Lost My Brain! (Once Again) is the first solo album from Mike "Cyco Miko" Muir – lead singer of Suicidal Tendencies and Infectious Grooves. Musically, it is more akin to the hardcore punk of Suicidal Tendencies albums to come – namely Freedumb in 1999 – rather than of old, and certainly unlike the funk metal of Infectious Grooves, in spite of the fact that many of the musicians performed for both bands. Also features Steve Jones of The Sex Pistols on guitars for many of the tracks - this is more straight ahead Punk Rock than ever! With titles like "I Love Destruction" and "Nothing To Lose" this CD delivers more than classic Muir anger and rebellion but with a great sence of fun - Muir must have really lost his brain with this one! Recommended.

Psychedelic Stoner Rockers GEEZER make a welcome return with their new album Groovy. This album feels like the spiritual successor to their 2016 self-titled record which was my favourite album of the year and the best album I think GEEZER released so far. However, that view has changed again with their new offering. As GEEZER return with a steady mix of Blues Rock, Psych Rock, Space Rock and Stoner Rock that’s has a deep passion for all things for 70s Heavy Rock…

Following in the footsteps of their California brothers Sublime, Huntington Beach's Dirty Heads mix hip-hop, reggae, and rock along with that laid-back South Cali attitude. The group formed in 2003 when punk rocker Dustin Bushnell (aka Duddy B) asked his friend rapper Jared Watson (aka Dirty J) to collaborate on a project that would focus on positive vibes and infectious grooves. Watson added singing to his vocal skills, and with percussionist Jon Olazabal joining, an acoustic trio version of Dirty Heads began playing shows and building an audience.

Jeff Richman's 15th solo release and delivers ten hard-hitting, playful compositions with catchy melodies and a refreshingly modern sound. Richman continues to shine in his ability to write music with creative intricacy and sophistication, articulating his individual point of view. This time around, his guitar tone is deeper, more resonant, robust and alive. Richman's style of playing complex changes fluidly over these infectious grooves will satisfy over many listenings.

When "Brass Construction 5" came out in 1979, one greeted the LP with skepticism. 1977's Brass Construction III was very uneven, and 1978's disappointing, uninspired Brass Construction IV was the funk-disco outfit's weakest album ever. So people didn't have very high hopes for Brass Construction's fifth album. But Randy Muller and his associates pleasantly surprised their fans with this enjoyable LP, which finds them sounding revitalized. A definite improvement over Brass Construction IV, this 1979 release boasts some of the combo's most infectious grooves since Brass Construction II.

Brian Bromberg specializes in smooth jazz. That's music with rough edges removed. He plays it on basses, upright and electric, and on piccolo basses which are tuned to sound like guitars. It's all fiendishly clever but Bromberg remains modest. He uses a whole side of the album's cover to thank everyone, including God, "for trusting me with the gifts that you have given me."
