This compilation features everything released by The Hollywood Argyles between 1960-62, including rare 45s and unissued demos, many of which have never previously appeared on CD. The Hollywood Argyles were archetypical one-hit wonders, topping the US charts in 1960 with the multi-million selling, worldwide hit "Alley-Oop", but never quite being able to get a follow-up hit away. As a result, their cash-in LP and subsequent singles have all become huge collectors' items. The Argyles' Main Man, singer/songwriter/producer/entrepreneur Gary Paxton, had earlier been one half of a vocal duo, Skip & Flip, who'd hit the US charts in 1959 with a pair of million-sellers, "It Was I", and "Cherry Pie". Both are included herein as bonus tracks, alongside a handful of Skip & Flip rarities.

IRMA THOMAS has ruled as the acknowledged 'R&B Queen Of New Orleans' for many decades, although back in the late 50s/early 60s, while she was still princess-in-waiting, she had a number of rivals, notably KATIE WEBSTER, BARBARA GEORGE and BARBARA LYNN. This unique compilation is built around Irma's first eight singles, which includes her early hits 'Don't Mess With My Man', 'It's Raining' and 'Two Winters Long'. Katie Webster is represented by three tracks, which showcase her Swamp Blues roots. Barbara George famously topped the US R&B charts with her first record, 'I Know (You Don't Love Me No More)', which is included herein alongside her other R&B hits, 'You Talk About Love' and 'Send For Me'. Barbara Lynn topped the R&B charts with 'You'll Lose A Good Thing', and also registered with 'Second Fiddle Girl' and 'You're Gonna Need Me'.

The Drifters are an American doo-wop and R&B/soul vocal group. They were originally formed as a backing group for Clyde McPhatter, formerly the lead tenor of Billy Ward and his Dominoes in 1953.According to Rolling Stone magazine, the Drifters were the least stable of the great vocal groups, as they were low-paid musicians hired by George Treadwell, who owned the Drifters' name from 1955, after McPhatter left. There have been 60 vocalists in the history of the Treadwell Drifters line, including several splinter groups by former Drifters members (not under Treadwell's management). These groups are usually identified with a possessive credit such as "Bill Pinkney's Original Drifters", "Charlie Thomas' Drifters".
