More than a decade ago, saxophonist-composer Ingrid Laubrock met pianist-composer Kris Davis at the recently shuttered historic hang Cornelia Street Cafe in downtown Manhattan, before Laubrock had moved to New York.

Ingrid's Rhythms of Your Heart 2015 album is produced by Grammy-nominated producer Daryl Bennett and features the outstanding talents of Vancouver musicians: Daryl Bennett (cello, drums, percussion, orchestral programming, engineer, mixer), Roy Tan (piano, vocals, arrangements, orchestral programming ), Eli Bennett (saxophone), Vince Mai (trumpet), Dave Martone (guitar), Adam Thomas (bass) and the glamorous Rosemary Siemens (violin). Combined, this team of musicians have won several accolades and have performed and recorded with artists such as Sarah McLachlan, Michael Buble, Natalie Cole, Nickelback, and The Temptations.

In the late 1940s, the incandescent Hollywood star Ingrid Bergman found herself so stirred by the revolutionary neorealist films of Roberto Rossellini that she sent the director a letter, introducing herself and offering her talents. The resulting collaboration produced a series of films that are works of both sociopolitical concern and metaphysical melodrama, each starring Bergman as a woman experiencing physical dislocation and psychic torment in postwar Italy. It also famously led to a scandalous affair and eventual marriage between filmmaker and star, and the focus on their personal lives in the press unfortunately overshadowed the extraordinary films they made together. Stromboli, Europe ’51, and Journey to Italy are intensely moving portraits that reveal the director at his most emotional and the glamorous actress at her most anguished, and that capture them and the world around them in transition.

Born and raised in Ann Arbor, MI, trumpeter and composer Ingrid Racine embraces everything from early jazz to bop, fusion to folk and hip hop. After graduating from the esteemed jazz program at Community High School in 2000, Ingrid pursued a BFA in Jazz Studies at the University of Michigan, where she studied with the great saxophonist Donald Walden and Detroit Symphony Orchestra trumpeter Bill Lucas. By graduation, Ingrid was playing professionally all over Michigan with an eclectic array of ensembles including early jazz ensemble Phil Ogilvie’s Rhythm Kings, Mady Kouyate’s Heat of Africa, and the Detroit-based all female jazz group Straight Ahead, in addition to steady sideman work in local small jazz groups.

Known for work that resides at the meeting point of jazz, free improv, and modernist composition, German saxophonist and composer Ingrid Laubrock has put out a number of fine albums in the past two decades.
