Because the band risked experimenting with some bold new directions on 1990's By Inheritance, the album usually gets a bad rap from grumpy thrash purists and even some Artillery fans. Sachiko Furuhata-Kersting was born in Yokohama, Japan, and completed her piano studies at the Tokyo Conservatory.Further studies took her to Germany at the Detmold University of Music and the Robert Schumann University inDsseldorf. Her teachers include Roberto Szidon, Detlev Kraus, Naoyuki Taneda and Willem Brons. Her concertactivities have taken her to Germany, Holland, Italy, Spain, Switzerland and Japan.With this third recital album, Sachiko Furuhata-Kersting takes up selected works by Frdric Chopin. With the famousetudes, the nocturnes and waltzes, different moods are singled out and compare so that an independent Chopin portraitis drawn.
Susannah McCorkle spoke Italian, Spanish, German, and Portuguese in addition to English; she had worked as an interpreter before she devoted herself to singing. On her second Concord CD, McCorkle sang ten Brazilian songs plus "Estate," switching between English, Portuguese, and Italian. There is no communication problem as far as conveying her feelings and the high quality of the melodies, so this is a more accessible release than one might think. The vocalist's backup group includes pianist Lee Musiker, Scott Hamilton on tenor, and guitarist Emily Remler.
