A late 70s gem from Tyrone's years on Columbia Records – one that shows both sides of his talents for the label! The set starts out with an extended clubby groover called "Get On Up (Disco)" – a bumping sort of number that's clearly trying to push him into Johnnie Taylor territory, and which comes off surprisingly well. But even better are the rest of the tracks on the set – which update Tyrone's older Brunswick sound with a smoother, more sophisticated sort of style – still recorded in Chicago, and with some southern soul traces – but usually done in a warmer midtempo groove, with excellent lead vocals and great backing from The Haywood Sisters. Titles include "It's You It's You", "Bunky", "All I Ever Need", "I Can't Go On This Way", and "Can't Help But Say".

First time on CD for the Tyrone Davis 1979 album "Can’t You Tell It’s Me". Superbly remastered from the original mater tapes by Sean Brennan. Fantastic mellow soul from Tyrone - a great reminder that his vocals were still some of the burningest in 70s soul - sounding especially great in a record like this! Side one of the album's especially great - an all-mellow side that almost acts like some mini-suite of love songs, with a slinky, sexy, late nite sound! Side two picks up the groove a bit, but never too much - and Davis' warmly crackling vocals come through with a tremendous amount of feeling, even amidst clubby rhythms. Leo Graham produced, and arrangements are by Tom Tom, Gil Askey, and James Mack - on tracks that include "Can't You Tell It's Me", "Be With Me", "Heart Failure", "Burnin Up", "Love You Forever", and "Really Gonna Miss You".

The gang's all here: the in-demand New York session pros that fueled more hit records and seminal fusion cuts that anybody could accurately track down. And who knows how many tracks for TV commercials. Richard Tee came up from North Carolina and added a thick spread of Gospel to the collective sometimes billed as 'Stuff' (and sometimes not billed at all.) Every cut here climbs into a groove and rides.

Sisters Sheila, Wanda and Jeanette Hutchinson formed in their native Chicago in 1968 and found success with the Stax/Volt label under the guidance of legendary songwriters and producers Isaac Hayes and David Porter. After Stax went under The Emotions were reacquainted with Maurice White of Earth, Wind and Fire who wrote and produced their #1 R&B and Pop smash Best of My Love in 1977. "Come Into Our World" was the sister's 6th album to enter the R&B charts peaking at #35 R&B and #95 Pop in 1979. Produced by White, who also contributed his song writing skills to the project, it was an intriguing invitation just six months after "Boogie Wonderland".

When Columbia Records released Cheryl Lynn's second album, "In Love", in 1979, the Los Angeles native had a lot to live up to. Her 1978 smash "Got to Be Real" had become one of the definitive anthems of the Disco Era, reaching #1 on Billboard s R&B singles chart and #12 on Billboard s pop singles chart. On top of that, "Star Love" (another single from Lynn's self-titled debut album of 1978) was a #16 R&B hit in Billboard. So Columbia had high hopes for "In Love". The album was a huge success and made it to #5 on Billboard's R&B albums chart and sold more than one million copies in the United States alone.

James Jolis and Kevin Simone are two illustrious strangers who, through the interest of producer Ron Dante, manage in 1979 to obtain a contract with Columbia and to publish a work in their own name. The record, recorded in New York, turns out to be a nice surprise and showcases the remarkable qualities of the duo both as authors and singers.
