Each of Jade Warrior's Island albums was a revelation, both musically and thematically. Floating World's exploration of the Japanese philosophy of Ukiyo, Waves' oceanic voyage, the ninth century Buddhist monk whose story is told on the B-side of Kites (and who takes airy flight across the flip) – all were extraordinary expeditions into the Orient…

Four CD set. Wind Borne - The Island Albums 1974-1978 features newly remastered versions of Floating World, Waves, Kites, and Way Of The Sun. After releasing a series of albums for Vertigo Records, the original line-up of Jade Warrior split in 1973. Flautist Jon Field and innovative guitarist Tony Duhig decided to continue under the moniker and embarked on composing and recording a series of wonderful albums for Island Records in 1974. Coming to the attention of Island founder Chris Blackwell through a recommendation from Steve Winwood, Island issued Floating World in 1974. Stylistically, Jade Warrior had now evolved into an instrumental entity, pioneering a unique fusion of ethnic Japanese influences and ambient progressive rock which soon became critically acclaimed. The 1975 album Waves took this template still further and featured guest musician Steve Winwood on piano and Moog synthesizer. Kites, issued in 1976, was even more ambitious, featuring a host of guest musicians including Fred Frith of Henry Cow and Clodagh Simmons of Mellow Candle. Jade Warrior's final album for Island Records, Way Of The Sun, was issued in 1978 and was arguably their finest album. An incredibly evocative work, inspired by the mythology of the Incas, the album saw Field and Duhig at the peak of their creative powers.

Twisting big themes of disillusionment, divorce, cheating, sorrow into the realities of an independent-minded, modern British teenager, Jade's music transcends genre with a wealth of influence coming from everywhere, and anywhere. Classic, contemporary, and a total breath of fresh air in the current musical landscape, Jade Bird is that rare, next-generation artist who appears as clued up on the past as she is determined to learn from it's lessons: in control, sometimes in your face, and in possession of gifts beyond her years.

Jade Warrior is the debut self-titled and self-produced album by Jade Warrior, released in 1971 as part of the progressive rock movement. The album sets the scene for what the majority of the band's albums were to sound like, mixing various ethnic sounds with a progressive and otherworldly sound, as well as sudden changes between slow acoustic guitar melody, to distorted and heavy electric guitar with a faster tempo.

Mature and touching music, very much in the jazz tradition, with an "all-star" band assembled by master bassist Marc Johnson. Old friends Joe Lovano, John Scofield and Joey Baron all play beautifully, as does Brazilian pianist Eliane Elias, making her ECM debut. Guitar great John Scofield is featured sparingly, but highly effectively, Johnson making good use of the guitarist's creative rapport with Lovano. Organist Alain Mallet plays on two tracks (8 & 10) only. Material, mostly written by Johnson and/or Elias, consists primarily of sumptuous ballads and gorgeous medium tempo pieces.

Whilst the English composer Edmund Rubbra is best known for his symphonic output, he composed a good deal of vocal music, and wrote songs throughout his compositional life. Rubbra studied with Cyril Scott and Gustav Holst, and was a great friend of his contemporary Gerald Finzi. The songs are notable for their variation in accompaniment (less than half are set for piano, the rest for harp, string quartet, string orchestra, or full orchestra). This album contains all his published songs with piano and harp accompaniment, and includes the first and last songs of the composer’s output. Lucy Crowe, Claire Barnett-Jones, and Marcus Farnsworth are the three singers on the album, Catrin Finch (harp) and Iain Burnside (piano) the accompanists. Timothy Ridout (viola) joins for the Two Sonnets by William Alabaster, Op. 87.

Once a symbol of the Vertigo label's adventurism, Jade Warrior's lack of sales led to their dismissal in 1972, which inevitably resulted in the band's disintegration. However, the Warrior's multi-instrumentalists, Jon Field and Tony Duhig, soldiered on at the urging of Steve Winwood, whose enthusiastic support of the diminished Warrior secured the duo a deal with his label, Island. Floating World was the new-look Jade's debut, a concept album themed around the Japanese philosophy of Ukiyo, with the songs revolving around two interrelated series of compositions. It's a complex set, and helpfully this reissue's excellent sleeve notes assist in making sense of it. The compositions may be interlaced, but the album itself is as diverse as any previous Jade offering…

Three CD clamshell box conaining all the Jade Warrior albums issued on the legendary Vertigo label in 1971 and 1972. Formed in 1970, JADE WARRIOR were one of the most original British bands to emerge during the Progressive Rock era. Signing to Philips' progressive Vertigo label, the band recorded their self-titled debut album in March 1971. A remarkable work, 'JADE WARRIOR' would be the template upon which the band would build their unique sound - venturing stylistically between ethnic music, melodic, gentle ethereal and ambient sounds and heavier guitar driven rock. Upon it's release the album was acclaimed by critics and has since acquired legendary status for it's sheer inventiveness. In November 1971, the band's second album, 'RELEASED', was issued. For the sessions the band had now expanded to a quartet with drummer ALLAN PRICE adding a new character to the band's sound. The sessions also featured a guest appearance from saxophonist DAVE CONNORS. 'RELEASED' was a huge progression from the band's debut and featured such classic tracks as 'THREE-HORNED DRAGION KING', 'EYES ON YOU' and the epic 14-minute piece 'BARAZINBAR'. 'LAST AUTUMN'S DREAM' was the band's third and last album for Vertigo and was arguably the most fully realised album by Jade Warrior during their tenure with the label, featuring such classic tracks as 'A WINTER'S TALE', 'SNAKE', 'DARK RIVER' and 'BORNE ON THE SOLAR WIND'. This Esoteric Recordings celebrates the early years of one of Britain's most unique progressive bands and features an illustrated booklet with essay.
