37:19 | Garage Rock, Post-punk | Label: Strap Originals

The bulk of the critical acclaim that surrounds U.K. post-punk band Warmduscher unsurprisingly has to do with their particularly wild and memorable live show. Bottling that unhinged energy on record has felt like an untenable task but their fifth album, Too Cold to Hold, gets us closer. A psychedelic monologue by writer Irvine Welsh (Trainspotting, Filth) precedes the first song, "Fashion Week," a Mark E. Smith-style vocal-forward track propelled by punk-funk drum fills and vibes. It's sort of Magazine meets Roy Ayers, continuing at a frenzied pace until dramatically swinging into a noise-laden third act where the Warmduscher display their DEVO-weirdness.

Seals & Crofts It's possible to hear the progression of soft rock through the music of Seals & Crofts, the duo who recorded some of the genre's perennials. Over the course of the 1970s, Seals & Crofts evolved from a gentle folk-rock duo to purveyors of slick, polished pop, two sounds that became inextricably associated with the Me Decade. Practitioners of the Baha'i Faith – at the height of their fame in the mid-'70s, they'd extol its virtues to fans – the duo were drawn to the quieter aspects of rock music, developing a signature sound distinguished by their easy melodicism and mellow vibe. Their craft was evident on their biggest hits. "Summer Breeze," "Diamond Girl," "We May Never Pass This Way (Again)," and "Get Closer" remained radio staples years after their initial run on the charts, surviving long after the pair called it a day at the dawn of the '80s.

EAC Rip | FLAC (image+.cue+log) - 295 MB | MP3 CBR 320 kbps (LAME 3.93) - 112 MB | Covers - 56 MB
Genre: Folk Rock, Blue-Eyed Soul, Singer-Songwriter | RAR 3% Rec. | Label: Polydor (537 456-2)

The final album of Van Morrison's remarkably prolific and innovative 1968-1974 period (followed by three years of silence), Veedon Fleece brings the singer full circle, returning him to the introspection and poignancy of Astral Weeks. Composed following his sudden divorce from wife Janet Planet and subsequent retreat from the U.S., the songs are subtle and Spartan, the performances deeply felt; though less tortured and cathartic than Astral Weeks, it's a record fraught with emotional upheaval, as evidenced by such superior moments as "Linden Arden Stole the Highlights," "Who Was That Masked Man," and "You Don't Pull No Punches, But You Don't Push the River." That said, this is one of those - and there are several - forgotten classics in the Morrison catalog…
