BROADCAST RECORDING FROM ERIC CLAPTON S 25th ANNIVERSARY TOUR IN 1988 - FEATURING ELTON JOHN. Eric Clapton s 25th Anniversary Tour, featuring Dire Straits guitarist Mark Knopfler among band members, was arranged to celebrate what was, in the late-1980s, Clapton s quarter century in the music business. Beginning on January 22, 1988 in Birmingham and ending on November 5 the same year in Osaka, the tour led through Asia, Europe and North America. Announced in December 1987 the tour quickly sold out and during 42 concerts, including four in Japan, 12 in the United Kingdom and 26 in the United States and Canada, Eric and band performed in front of more than 500,000 concertgoers, taking around 14 million US dollars in revenue. On November 2nd, the entourage performed at Japan s Tokyo Dome, for a show which was recorded for live broadcast on TV and FM radio, both in Japan and across the US. Elton John performed both solo on a couple of numbers during the concert, and alongside Clapton and band for several more songs. This entire gig is now presented on this 2CD Set in perfect quality for the first time.

"Big Brother & the Holding Company," is an early recording by Big Brother and the Holding Company, a psychedelic blues rock San Francisco-based band during the late 1960's. The record survives largely because of their great, great chick singer, Janis Joplin, of course, who joined them on a Chicago gig. Although Joplin fans will know that she did not, unfortunately, survive the 1970's, as she passed on October 4, 1970 (aged 27), in Los Angeles, California. But in her brief career, despite her troubled life, she left behind a stunning, gutsy repertory of work that has long since floated free of, and outlived, Big Brother. This record, however, was laid down about six months before she (and they) achieved lasting blazing stardom at the 1967 Monterrey Pop Festival.

As well as being one of the finest rock singers of the 1960s, Janis Joplin was also a great blues singer, making her material her own with her wailing, raspy, supercharged emotional delivery. First rising to stardom as the frontwoman for San Francisco psychedelic band Big Brother & the Holding Company, she left the group in the late '60s for a brief and uneven (though commercially successful) career as a solo artist. Although she wasn't always supplied with the best material or most sympathetic musicians, her best recordings, with both Big Brother and on her own, are some of the most exciting performances of the era.

Having risen to fame following her appearance at the Monterey Pop Festival, where she was the singer of the then little-known San Francisco psychedelic rock band Big Brother and the Holding Company, Janis Joplin released two albums with the group, but left Big Brother at the end of 1968 to continue as a solo artist with her own backing groups, first the Kozmic Blues Band and then the Full Tilt Boogie Band. She appeared at the Woodstock festival and on the Festival Express train tour. Five singles by Joplin reached the Billboard Hot 100, including a cover of the Kris Kristofferson song ‘Me and Bobby McGee’, which reached number one posthumously, in March 1971.

Eric Clapton’s fifth full-length studio album, Slowhand, was released on 25 November 1977 by RSO Records, and titled after Clapton's nickname; it remains one of his most commercially and critically successful studio albums. Slowhand produced the two hit singles ‘Lay Down Sally’ and ‘Wonderful Tonight’, and hit big on international music charts the world over. • In a retrospective review for AllMusic, Stephen Thomas Erlewine wrote that the confident, virtuosic quality in the band's playing and the diversity of the songwriting made Slowhand "rank with 461 Ocean Boulevard as Eric Clapton's best albums". • Eric and his band began touring the new record in Japan where they played 8 nights in September and October ’77, prior to the release date, and then reconvened in February ’78, taking the tour to the US. Opening this leg in Seattle, Washington, by the 11th of the month the entourage had moved down the West Coast and were in Santa Monica where they performed 2 nights at the city’s Civic Auditorium. The second show there was deemed one of the tour’s finest events and was recorded for live FM Broadcast, and is now featured in its entirety on this new double CD set. A stunning performance by Eric and his group, fans of the great man are certain to want to add this new release to their collections
