Coinciding with both Halloween and the film’s television premiere, ScreamWorks Records and Quartet Records resurrect the notorious monster of the Jeepers Creepers franchise with a release of the third episode’s soundtrack. Written and directed by Victor Salva, Jeepers Creepers 3 is finally unleashed fourteen years after the last adventure of the notorious flesh-consuming monster. The story of the third episode is actually set between the first and second film as Sergeant Davis Tubbs (Davis Tubbs) assembles a task force to destroy the Creeper once and for all the while growing closer than ever before to learning the secrets of its dark origins, as the monster terrorizes a local farming community. After so many years of slumber, The Creeper is back and his music lives up to the greatness of the first two scores.

Has there ever been a more consistent performer in jazz history over a longer period of time than Benny Carter? The classic altoist, who had fully formed his sound by the early '30s (he first recorded in 1927), has not altered his style much in the past 65 (and counting) years. The music on this Verve reissue CD features Carter in three settings: in a trio with pianist Teddy Wilson and drummer Jo Jones (those performances were only previously out in Japan), heading a quartet with pianist Don Abney, bassist George Duvivier and drummer Louis Bellson and showcased on three previously unissued tracks with the Oscar Peterson trio plus drummer Bobby White. Carter knew most of these standards extremely well and he glides effortlessly over the chord changes, infusing the music with swing and subtle creativity.

There is something carefree and joyful about the music of Django Reinhardt; something that comes bubbling to the surface every time he begins a wild run of notes on his acoustic guitar. Of course the swinging style of Stephane Grappelli's violin doesn't hurt. Nor do great songs like "Tea for Two," "My Melancholy Baby," and "Jeepers Creepers." Swing 39 captures 17 tracks by the Quintet of the Hot Club of France, including a number of alternate versions, on the eve of Grappelli leaving the group (because of the war). Two bouncy versions of "Jeepers Creepers" start things off, and while the pacing of both cuts is similar, each guitar solo is fresh and fundamentally different. Reinhardt creates endless variety through his ability to solo with chords or single notes, bend strings, and constantly alter the tempo…

Great John Barry album makes world CD premiere at last! Original soundtrack from John Schlesinger 1930's-era drama with Donald Sutherland, Karen Black, William Atherton. In 1974, famed Dot label producer Tom Mack produces two back-to-back classic soundtracks to Paramount movies with similar 1930's Los Angeles settings: CHINATOWN (for ABC label) & THE DAY OF THE LOCUST (for London label). Mack produces both LPs with emphasis on original scores while weaving in period music important to each respective movie, greatly enhancing mood of final album. For THE DAY OF THE LOCUST, John Barry anchors with rich, warm main theme, then surrounds with appropriate variants to fit each scene. For climactic sequence, Barry writes what might be his most intense, dramatic cue of a long and famed career! Intrada CD features same classic program as London LP, presented from mint condition stereo album masters vaulted at Universal Music Group. Notes by Jeff Bond. John Barry conducts.
