The German soprano, Meike Leluschko, received clarinet, piano and organ lessons from an early age. She studied singing privately with Edeltraud Blanke and at the Hochschule für Musik Detmold with Professor Gerhild Romberger and Professor Heiner Eckels. She completed her singing studies in 2006 with a graduate recital. Among her most important teachers was also Caroline Stein. Master-classes and studies with, among others, Ute Trekel-Burkhardt, Ralf Popken, Ingrid Figur, Christoph Prégardien and András Schiff proved to be particularly inspiring. She won a prize at the Federal Competition Berlin in 2002 and First Prize of the NRW German Musicians Association. She won scholarship of the Werner Richard - Dr. Carl Dörken Foundation (2007), the Mozart Society and the Bertelsmann Foundation "New Voices" for a master-class (2007).

Meyer has split the original piano part between two accordions, played here by Heidi and Uwe Steger. Their instruments are astonishingly close to the human voice, breathing, shouting, whispering, and singing. Tobias Berndt, an accomplished lied singer, takes on the baritone solo part in this recording with the choir of one of the most renowned concert halls.

“I have had this formation in mind for some time now,” Bernhard Meyer says about his quintet, which unites an unusual combination of instruments and charismatic musicians. “The specific sound came together over time in my imagination,” Meyer continues, “inspired by collaboration with these musicians individually, in smaller formations.” Of course the ingenious unity with his brother Peter is present again, well known through three highly acclaimed albums and countless concerts of the Melt Trio.

The breadth of clarinetist Sabine Meyer's repertoire is matched by her dedication to collaborations with other, equally skilled musicians. She received her first music lessons from her father, clarinetist Karl Meyer, and then went on to study with Otto Hermann in Stuttgart and Hans Deinzer in Hannover. She was 16 when she made her professional debut. She joined Munich's Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra for a time, then in 1982, Herbert von Karajan created something of an international stir by appointing her as solo clarinetist for the Berlin Philharmonic, going against the orchestra's tradition of not admitting female musicians.
