Italo-German composer Ferruccio Busoni was a titanic piano virtuoso and an architect of European modernism. Best known for his transcriptions of J.S. Bach and for his Piano Concerto, Fantasia Contrappuntistica, and opera Doktor Faust, Busoni revolutionized piano technique and opened up new harmonic concepts within boundaries of functional harmony. Busoni's idea of junge klassizität (renewed classicality) served as a building block for neo-classicism and his book remains influential. Busoni led a Berlin-based master class, training composers and pianists alike. Busoni was the son of an Italian clarinet virtuoso who was a harsh and demanding pedagogue.

Hailing from the transition town of Totnes, Devonshire, England, Magic Bus are a band that freely admits that they think they are still producing music of the psychedelic era of the 1960s and early 1970s. Their sound definitely conjures up early psychedelic jazz of Canterbury Scene bands Caravan, Soft Machine and Steve Hillage though it also takes inspiration from the psychedelia coming from the West Coast of the USA in the late Sixties (specifically Jefferson Airplane, The Grateful Dead, Crosby, Stills & Nash)…

The third album from Magic Bus rolls on into the distant future by way of the golden streets of the past. If sunny progressive rock is your bag… then jump on the Bus and forget about the fuss! Recorded over 9 days at Vale studios in Worcestershire, the band are spacebound in their silver jetpacks… determined to find Utopia. The album has the Canterbury/West coast vibe the band are known for, but now with the added influence of vintage Prog clearly coming to the fore.

The pair defected during a 1963 tour of Britain, and Ashkenazy soon began a recording career with the associated Decca and London labels, on whose roster he would remain for decades. He became an Icelandic citizen in 1972 and has also lived in Switzerland. In the early 1970s he began conducting as well. Ashkenazy became principal conductor of the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra in London from 1987 to 1994, of the Czech Philharmonic from 1998 to 2003, and of the Sydney Symphony in Australia from 2009 to 2013, as well as other groups, and he has been widely visible as a guest conductor, including in Russia after the fall of the Soviet Union. Ashkenazy's piano playing is bright and incisive, with clear articulation and an intellectual depth that does not interfere with the production of warm feeling.

The composer of Julietta left an abundant harvest of chamber works, a jazzy, iconoclastic piano quintet, then two masterpieces from the American period, preliminary counterpoints to the Symphonies of 1942 and 1944, still marked by the anguish of war.Three masterpieces brought together on a single disc for the first time by the Kocians and Ivan Klansky.
