I dont normally purchase anything with the words "Rock N Roll" in the title, although I dont mind some Rock n Roll music, it is not my music of choice. Having said that the track listings on this CD pushed me into thinking this could be more R&B than R&R, with the likes of Ruth Brown, Titus Turner) and it was enough to make me take a gamble and buy (you have to do things now and again). I also looked at other reviews on the other compilations in this series,(Heavy Sugar, Sassy Sugar) and decided to buy. And what an excellent decison it was, It is packed with 3 CDs worth of R&B/R&R tracks. you could argue whether some are actually R&B, rather than R&R but, whatever camp your musical tastes lie in, this CD is brilliant, of course some of the tracks are out and out Rock and Roll(the Bay Bops for instance- with that Doo Wop style of track), but the majority are pure listening pleasure.

This aptly titled collection digs back into the archaeology of Cliff Richard's career to celebrate the seething rock & roll with which he announced his arrival and which kick-started the rocking dreams of an entire generation of British kids. The passage of time and the fictions of history have, between them, conspired to downplay the young Richard's significance rock's revenge for his defection to "family entertainment," once the competition grew too stern. But the fact remains, for four years prior to the emergence of the Beatles, Cliff Richard wasn't simply the biggest rock & roller in the country, he was also the best, and the 16 tracks here capture him at his earth-shattering best.

It's 50 tracks, 25 tracks on each of the 2CDs in the set, of very good R&B from the period. Each CD is about 60 minutes playing time. The sound is good for recordings of this era.
