*Karen Wyman was a national sensation for a short time in the late '60s and early '70s before disappearing unexpectedly from the scene.

Ivan Sokolov, born in Moscow in 1960, has made his mark both as composer and as pianist. His early compositions were avant-gardist, but he eventually rejected radicality in favour of a more traditional musical language, one with its roots in Tchaikovsky, Glazunov and Rachmaninov, flavoured, perhaps, with a hint of Shostakovich. Most of the works here were composed within the last few years and are couched in the unforced lyricism of his latter-day Romanticism.

Following their Linn debut, a "breathtaking album of songs by Gustav and Alma Mahler" (The Herald), Karen Cargill and Simon Lepper return to fin-de-siècle Europe for a recital of songs by the "crème de la crème" of late nineteenth-century French speaking composers. Entitled "Fleur de mon âme", the album embraces the sensual soundworld of Hahn, Debussy, Chausson, Jongen and Duparc.

French composer Joseph Canteloube (1879-1957) made a life's work of collecting, transcribing, and arranging folksongs. His Chants d'Auvergne has long been very popular.

Karen Pittelman grew up listening to her parents’ country record collection and despite starting out in a punk band she eventually found herself wanting to sing songs about heartbreak. Only by using the pedal steel did she find the musical ‘essence of sorrow’ she was looking for, played here by Elana Redfield (drummer Tammi Johnson completes the trio). The Narrow Place is an album connected to the musical roots of country music but thematically and lyrically unique.
