His fans didn’t know it at the time, but Holmes did indeed come full circle with 1981’s Elektra LP, and it would turn out to be his last word in pop/rock songwriting for over a decade. Holmes tells of being encouraged to return to an orchestrated style for this offering, and so “The End” (reaching #31 on the AC chart) does just that. “Loved by the One You Love,” like the previous album’s “Blackjack,” stalled at #103 on the pop chart, despite having the same infectious pop quality as “Him” or “Escape.” A theme of romance permeated the album, and the open-hearted “One Born Every Minute” (one love, not one sucker, contrary to P.T. Barnum’s belief) remains a favorite of its songwriter.

One of the corner stones of our record collection. A real jazz funk gem that we never stopped listening since 1981. Featuring the cream of 70's musicians like Herbie Hancock, Lee Ritenour and Jerry Hey, this intense album is a must have for every jazz funk collector. Don't miss out Freddie Hubbard's great flugelhorn solo on our favorite piece " By All Means ".

Genre: Rock, Soft Rock | Label: Magnet | # 242 371-2 | Time: 00:42:45

Though Chris Rea has been around for nearly 25 years now, it's good to go back to his beginnings as a songwriter and guitarist who carved out a niche for himself with a late-night brand of very British formalist rock & roll that owes as much to J.J. Cale as it does to Dire Straits. But it's the late-night sound that is his trademark and it was in evidence on this, his very first outing. He has help from drummer Dave Mattacks, keyboardist Pete Wingfield, percussionist Ray Cooper, bassist Dave Paton, and a host of other dignitaries.

Beautifully played & produced with an excellent song selection, there is no reason for any R&B/jazz lover not to have this in their collection. Both Sample and David T. Walker are hot, and have a great rappore. The horn section absolutely kicks. The only bad thing about this album is it ends to soon and leaves you hungry for more.

Perhaps realizing that Down on the Farm wasn't the proper swan song for Little Feat, the group persuaded Warner Brothers to release a compilation of rarities and overlooked tracks as a swan song and farewell to fans. Filled with live performances, obscurities, album tracks, and a new song apiece from Bill Payne and Paul Barrere, Hoy Hoy is a bit scattered, a bit incoherent, a little bewildering, and wholly delightful – a perfect summation of a group filled with quirks, character, and funk, traits which were as much a blessing as they were a curse. Hoy Hoy is one of those rare albums that may be designed for diehards – who else really needs radio performances, early recordings from before the band was signed, and outtakes, especially if they're surrounded by early album tracks? – but still is a great introduction for novices. That doesn't mean it's as good as such masterpieces as Sailin' Shoes, Dixie Chicken, or Waiting for Columbus, but it does capture the group's careening, freewheeling spirit, humor, and musical versatility, arguably better than any single album.
