A killer from Groove Holmes - one of his rarest albums ever, a one-off session recorded for Blue Note, with a group that includes a young Weldon Irvine! Weldon was a hip up-and-comer at the time - and he not only plays electric piano on the set, but contributes some of the album's best tracks. The mix of electric piano and organ makes for a very unusual sound - one that gets a nice kick from the conga/drum rhythm section, mixed in with electric bass and guitar.

Brian Auger's Oblivion Express was the phoenix that rose from the ashes of sixties combo The Trinity. Fusing R&B, jazz, soul and funk, keyboard maestro Brian Auger created a new breed of music that took the US and the UK by storm. Auger's unique experimentation culminated in rhythm-infused jazz funk that united Black and white '70s audiences.
The 6 studio albums that make up Complete Oblivion illustrate the group's diverse musical influences and progression, from the 1970 self titled debut's heavy jazz- rock to the jazz fusion, latin and disco tinged Reinforcements from 1975 - this process no doubt powered by the groups' evolving line up, which included guitarists Jim Mullen and Jack Mills, drummers Robbie McIntosh & Steve Ferrone, bassists Barry Dean and Clive C h a m a n and vocalist Alex Ligertwood.

When Brian Auger, one of the visionary pioneers of UK jazz rock, was drawn to the wailing mod madonna Julie 'Jools' Driscoll the results were explosive. From soulful, swinging jazz-drenched grooves, to burning organ-driven rockers and smoky lilting ballads, A Kind Of Love 1967-1971 captures the sounds of swinging London at its finest during the heady days of the late 1960s. This is the British 60s rock act which bridged genres and left behind some indelible music including their landmark cover of Bob Dylan's "This Wheel's On Fire", subsequently re-recorded for use as the theme to TV's 'Absolutely Fabulous'. Their exhilarating blend of Stax/Volt R&B funkiness, mixed with swirling psychedelic rock and jazz, sounds as fresh and exciting today as when it was first recorded. This deluxe CD compilation puts the group's career into perspective for the first time.

Complete Live Oblivion Review by Jim Newsom
As a retrospective collection, this two-disc set provides an excellent introduction to the Oblivion Express's music of the early '70s. Brian Auger's distinctive organ and percussive electric piano attack lead the way, defining the group's sound. Guitarist Jack Mills may lean a little too heavily on the wah-wah effect popular at the time, and Alex Ligertwood's vocals may be an acquired taste, but the total package is very strong, a potent mix of jazz and rock. Mixing covers of funky jazz classics like Herbie Hancock's "Maiden Voyage" and Eddie Harris' "Freedom Jazz Dance" with "Happiness is Just Around the Bend" and other originals, this recording captures Auger and cohorts at the peak of their powers, stretching out at the Whisky a Go Go in 1974. Throughout, these guys really cook, taking the music into new directions only hinted at on earlier studio efforts, showing how exciting the jazz-rock blend could be.

The debut album from the formation of Julie Driscoll, Brian Auger & The Trinity, this record introduced to America a group that had been making some noise in England for some time already. The album is a bit fragmented, containing a few Julie Driscoll solo tracks, as well as some Auger/Trinity efforts without Driscoll. One of the most amazing moments opens the record: Driscoll's solo hit (in Europe), "I Know You Love Me Not." A swirling, churning string arrangement - not unlike a psychedelic Phil Spector - is the ground work for Driscoll's steely vocals. She come across as a combination of Dusty Springfield and Annie Lennox with a passionate performance. It's truly one of the great lost British records of the era, and alone is worth the price of the record…

Hans Theessink & Blue Groove - live is a collection of live recordings with my former band. We had lots of fun on the thing and played much in Europe and North America. This CD is also a good demonstration of the interplay of vocals, guitar and tuba. Only the band and their audience without Studio tricks. (Hans Theessink) Hans Theessink (vocals, guitars), Jon Sass (tuba), Alee Thelfa (drums, percussion, vocals), Dorretta Carter (vocals).

Amazon Review by Stan Marut
I remember the Brian Auger Trinity before his link up with Julie Driscoll and the other vocalists. I particularly enjoyed his Hammond Organ style. I have had a vynil album for many years which I am unable to play and the purchase of this CD was an opportunity to listen again to many of the tracks from that album. However, it is Brian on his own that holds the nostalgia for me. Music of it's time and although musical taste never stays the same, I never tire of "Fool KIller", the Mose Allsion number which Brian puts his own stamp on. Good nostalgic stuff for an old Mod.
