John Harvey Kellogg was one of America’s most beloved physicians; a best-selling author, lecturer, and health-magazine publisher; founder of the Battle Creek Sanitarium; and patron saint of the pursuit of wellness. His youngest brother, Will, was the founder of the Battle Creek Toasted Corn Flake Company, which revolutionized the mass production of food and what we eat for breakfast.

Many brands, including Boots, Hoover and Kelloggs, were named after their founders whilst others have less obvious origins; for instance, did you know that Velcro comes from velours and crochet, the French words for ‘velvet’ and ‘hook’?

The Kellogg's factory in Manchester opens its doors to reveal how some of the nation's favourite breakfast cereals are made. Larger than Buckingham Palace, and running 24 hours a day, five days a week, the factory produces one million packets of cereal a day. Cameras spend a day there and follow the process of making Corn Flakes, Crunchy Nut Cornflakes, Rice Crispies, and Coco Pops, with members of the workforce as guides.
