At age 26, he has already played at top jazz venues such as Smalls, Cellar Dog, the 1905, the Django, the Roxy, Cafe Bohemia, Chris’ Jazz Cafe, and Ornithology, sharing the stage with musicians such as Steve Davis, Alex Claffy, Joe Farnsworth, Pat Bianchi, George Colligan, Willie Jones III, David Wong, Ken Fowser, Brian Charette, Jon Davis, Jason Tiemann, David Kikoski, John Ellis, Sean Smith, and Mike Ledonne, among others.

Trumpeter Joshua Bruneau is a new name on the jazz scene and this is his initial effort as a leader. This hard-bop influenced septet with featured trombonist Steve Davis, delivers some brisk swirling sounds in this live recording entitled Bright Idea from Smalls Jazz Club in New York City.

You know, there is no point in simply referring to Ken Navarro as a renowned guitarist any longer. This guy, who constantly proves his musical prowess on so many different instruments, again dazzles us with his multi-instrumentalism. Here on his new release Bonfire he composes on every traditional instrument imaginable from acoustic and electric guitars to drums to electric and acoustic bass, keys, and just on and on… including saxes and trumpets. Who needs a band when you are the band…and who better to know what you want than you?

New York-based Japanese pianist Megumi Yonezawa co-leads a sharp new trio with fellow countrymen, bassist Masa Kamaguchi and drummer Ken Kobayashi. Integrity, freedom, and an extraordinary improvisational facility are part of the group’s philosophy, and Boundary proves their individual and collective value in the process of creating spontaneously from predetermined ideas.
