robably the best Ken Hensley´s solo album since his debut in the 70´s. It is a concept work in which he tells us his story with his band Uriah Heep. The result is a very strong, hard rocking album with some prog overtones, just like UH used to be…
2007 release from the former guitarist, singer and keyboardist for Uriah Heep. Blood On The Highway is an autobiographical album dealing Hensley's experiences during his '70s heyday. Featuring a number of special guests, the rock opera Blood on the Highway was recorded at the end of 2006 and released in May 2007. The story portrays the rise and fall of a rock'n'roll star and the eventual restart. The lead vocals role was split between Hensley himself, plus Glenn Hughes (ex-Deep Purple, Trapeze, Black Sabbath), Jorn Lande (ex-The Snakes, Masterplan), John Lawton (ex-Lucifer's Friend, Uriah Heep) and Eve Gallagher.
Although it’s fair to say that Ken Hensley, as a musician, a songwriter and artist, is probably best known for the decade he spent in Uriah Heep, from 1970’s “Very ’Eavy… Very ’Umble” through to 1980’s “Conquest”, as the band’s keyboard and organist, guitarist, and often their principle songwriter, Ken has forged a varied and exciting musical career over the past 50+ years. From stints with bands as wide ranging as southern boogie merchants Blackfoot, to shock rockers WASP, it’s as a solo artist, and with the band Ken Hensley & Live Fire, that Ken has secured his enduring legacy. Following on from last year’s “The Bronze Years 1973-1981” collection comes “Tales Of Live Fire & Other Mysteries”, a 5CD set that revisits two prolific years for Ken, with albums released in 2012 and 2013.
6CD Box Set celebrating the late, great Ken Hensley. A name synonymous with Uriah Heep, Ken Hensley was a founder member of the British prog legends and, during the 1970s, was the keyboard player, occasional guitarist and principle song writer. Right up to his passing in 2020, he was a prolific performer and writer. This fine fine box, up to the usual high Cherry Red standards and covers a breadth of material well. For fans of Uriah Heep.
Following a period of hiatus, the long awaited return to the studio resulted in this classic album, recorded in 1999 with the band Visible Faith. Somewhat a departure from the style of Ken's older solo work, the album had an interesting mixture of Gospel and rock. Unfortunately the album is extremely hard to find these days, for those looking to buy a copy. Production ceased a few years ago and has yet to recommence. «A Glimpse Of Glory» is often called a ‘Christian’ album, though the number of songs with love lyrics (‘relationship songs’) is almost the same as the number of ‘spiritual’ ones. It was the first album Ken recorded and released after his return to music. «A Glimpse Of Glory» was a new musical material recorded at Hensley’s The Upper Room Studios in St. Louis, Missouri. It was released by his own label, HIS Records.
