On what may seem like a readymade gag, the psych-folk favorite covers the lost Dave Matthews Band album in full. He convincingly connects his adolescent love to his adult explorations.
Rhino are to issue Dock of the Bay Sessions, a new Otis Redding collection, in May this year. The release is part of an ongoing 50th anniversary celebration of the (Sittin’ On) The Dock of the Bay which topped the charts in America on 16 March 1968.
The Eclipse Sessions, John Hiatt's newest album, offers up his strongest set of songs in years. Long celebrated as a skilled storyteller and keen observer of life's twists and turns, Hiatt can get at the heart of a knotty emotion or a moment in time with just a sharp, incisive lyric or witty turn of phrase. The 11 tracks presented in The Eclipse Sessions, from the breezy opener ''Cry to Me,'' to the stark ''Nothing in My Heart,'' the lost-love lamentation ''Aces Up Your Sleeve'' to the rollicking ''Poor Imitation of God,'' demonstrate that the singer-songwriter, now 66, is only getting better with age, his guitar playing more rugged and rootsy, his words wiser and more wry. Hiatt goes all in with The Eclipse Sessions. There's a grit to these songs' a craggy, perfectly-imperfect quality that colors every aspect of the performances, right down to Hiatt's vocals, which are quite possibly his most raw and expressive to date. ''They ain't pretty, that's for sure,'' he says about the creaks and cracks that punctuate his phrases in songs like ''Poor Imitation of God'' and ''One Stiff Breeze.'' ''But I don't mind a bit. All the catches and the glitches and the gruffness, that sounds right to me. That sounds like who I am.'' The Eclipse Sessions is the sound of an artist not only living in but also capturing the moment.
Tailor made for a band like Pearl Jam, MTV s acoustic showcase ran as a regular feature on the channel between 1989 and 1999. In September 1992, Pearl Jam were invited to appear on the show, and provided a quite stunning performance, replete with stripped down versions of their finest numbers to date, alongside a couple of choice covers. Also featuring some fascinating and humorous between song- rapport from main man Eddie, this previously unreleased recording finally makes it to CD, more than 25 years since the original broadcast. Bonus cuts here feature further acoustic recordings, taken from the band s appearance at Neil Young s 1999 Bridge School Benefit Show.

Beginning their career as the most popular surf band in the nation, the Beach Boys finally emerged by 1966 as America's preeminent pop group, the only act able to challenge (for a brief time) the overarching success of the Beatles with both mainstream listeners and the critical community.
