But there’s no question that the second album by the brothers McDonald is a toothsome, energetic mashup of guitar crunch and accessible melodic turns that embodied a new sound when it appeared in 1987. With Hawthorne, California, teenagers Jeff on guitar and vocals and Steven on bass out front, they began as The Tourists in 1978, before changing their name to Red Cross a year later. A lawsuit from the actual humanitarian organization forced a name change to Redd Kross which is what appeared on their 1982 debut Born Innocent, recorded before they were even out of high school.

"Slam" is the 1993 single by American hip-hop group Onyx. This was the second single from their debut album Bacdafuckup. This European CD5 features six mixes of the single, including the LP version and instrumental. This was released on Jam Master Jay's own JMJ via Chaos Recordings, a Rush Associate Label, which means it's a Def Jam.

Kickin' Afrolistics is the 1990 debut album by The Afros. The group consisted of Kool Tee, DJ Kippyo, and DJ Hurricane and was meant to be comedic and serious at the same time, where the entire group and all of their fans wore afros. They only recorded one album, as a second never materialized, but the debut featured two singles: "Feel It" and "Kickin' Afrolistics". This was released on Jam Master Jay's own JMJ Records, distributed by Rush Associated Labels (RAL), which basically was Def Jam as it was transitioning from Columbia to Polydor.
