One of Country Music's truly great guitarists and songwriters, Jerry Reed had been around for many years before he finally achieved crossover mainstream success in the 1970s and 80s.

Jimmy Reed at Carnegie Hall is a double album by Jimmy Reed, originally released in 1961. Though the title suggests that the record was recorded live, it consists of studio recreations of a Carnegie Hall performance along with additional studio recordings. "Bright Lights, Big City", which opens the album, was released as a single around the same time. It became one of Reed's most successful and last songs on the Billboard Hot R&B charts. The album includes several other Reed songs that appeared on the charts between 1956 and 1961.

Some two years on from the release of his acclaimed, in-demand debut album, The Boat Party, Kyle Julian Hall delivers the follow-up From Joy. Intriguingly, the eight tracks come from the Kyle Hall archives, all recorded by the young producer before the turn of the decade, and is presented as a homage to where Kyle lived at the time in his father's basement on the west side of Detroit on Joy Rd. Years in the making, Flesh & Bone was inspired by a racist incident Chicago-based drummer Mike Reed experienced in 2009. While on a European tour, Reed and his band, People, Places & Things, were caught in a neo-Nazi rally in the Czech Republic. Reed's ensemble—half black, half white—had been deliberately deceived into boarding a train bound for the small town of Prerov, where an anti-Gypsy protest was in the process of erupting into a full-blown skinhead riot. Fortunately, for Reed and company, local police hid them and provided safe passage to Krakow, Poland—the quartet's original destination.
