Since he left Cuba in 1993, Omar Sosa has forged a distinctive musical path, fusing an array of world music, hip-hop and electronic elements with his Afro-Cuban roots. Sosa's newest recording, Ile, marks a homecoming for the pianist and composer to the Latin Jazz influences of his formative years in late '80s and early '90s Havana. Ile means homeland in the Yoruba language of West Africa, and it is to the Latin Jazz roots of his native Cuba that Sosa returns for inspiration on this new studio recording. Ile offers contemporary interpretations of some of the classic Cuban musical styles the world has come to admire. Listeners will enjoy this album's mix of ballads and sophisticated mid and up-tempo arrangements.

Later than Sadao Watanabe's classic period, but a great album with some really wonderful moments! The set was recorded live in Tokyo in 1975, and it features Watanabe working with a group that includes Isao Suzuki on bass, Yshiaki Masuo on guitar, and Takehiro Honda on piano. The four tracks are all long, with some of the searching Coltrane-ish playing that Watanabe brought to his earlier Sony albums, but they've also got a fair bit of the warmth he was reaching for during the 70s – combining elements of world jazz styles into a mode that really pushed his work on alto and flute. Titles include "Pamoja", "Vichakani", and "Musitoni".

Reissue with latest 2015 DSD remastering. Comes with liner notes. A bold little message from alto saxophonist Lenny Hambro – a very strong record that should have made him as much of a giant on his instrument as contemporary talents like Lee Konitz or Herb Geller! Hambro has some of the soulful edge of the latter, and lots of the crisp, modern chromes of the former – especially in the way he runs alongside some great guitar in the group from Dick Garcia – a player we mostly know for his work on the Dawn label at the time, but who really makes the record something special here. The rest of the combo features Wade Legge on piano, Clyde Lombardi on bass, and Mel Zelnick on rhythm – and Hambro's sax work is angular and very deft – already at the top of his game. Titles include the Legge originals "Slave Girl", "Message In Minor", "Moon Slippers", and "Hoof Beats" – plus Hambro's "Thanatopsis" and "The Lonely One".

Emerson, Lake & Palmer (ELP) is one of the most popular and successful english progressive rock bands in history.
