The journey Niels Lan Doky and Gino Vannelli have undertaken in this album is - most of all - a rejoining journey. A reunion with their own roots ("A Word To My Father"), with their most intimate affections ("Tout Depend De Nous"), with Nature ("The War Of A Lonesome Dove"), with the World ("Close Your Eyes") and Spirituality ("Karumi"). To rejoin all this is to perceive Opposites and Conflicts as mere appearances. As such, melody and dissonance, sound and silence, perfect and unperfect, sacred and profane share the same, radiant Light. Recognising such differences means to solve them, to focus where the beauty and unity are coming from. This is "Haitek Haiku": at the same time an ideal Myth, a Project and a Sound.
In the heterogenity of its ten tracks, hypertechnological and hyperhuman coexist with one another…
Digipak edition of this 1972 album from the Jazz great featuring five bonus tracks taken from the album Love And Understanding (1973). Although Jimmy Heath released an album per year between 1959 and 1964, he would undergo an eight-year recording hiatus as a leader before returning to the studios in 1972. This CD contains the first album Heath recorded after his break. The tracks have a cohesive group sound and showcase the individuality and force of Jimmy's compositions coupled with his instrumental brilliance as a flautist and soprano and tenor saxophonist.
With a sparsely documented history to Funk, Ripple is a mystery to all but ardent funksters. But when you listen to the third track on this album you'll instantly recognise the tune: I Don't Know What It Is But It Sure Is Funky, and it is. You've probably already got this track somewhere in your collection, possibly on a home-made compilation tape somebody gave you ages ago-.-that's how I first heard this track, only now I know the names of artists. Sleevenote writer and funk connoisseur lan Clark remembers hearing Ripple for the first time in 1973, and the infectious vibes generated by this septet got him shaking his funky thang on the dancefloor, as the above mentioned track danced itself into a top 10 position in the R&B charts. Ripple were a Chicago-based interracial 'progressive soul' band.
Gino Vannelli's Yonder Tree is a musical breath of fresh air from a gifted artist who can perform just about anything he wants to. However with Yonder Tree, the listener truly feels his exuberance and his human compassion as he explores themes of romance and moral consciousness in a musical genre that is so well suited to his voice.
With Yonder Tree, Gino delves into his gift for lush arranging and presents us with a beautifully orchestrated work that is romantic, eclectic, and highlights his most beautiful instrument, his voice, in a way that his three previous albums did not. This is yet another overlooked and underappreciated effort from an artist who is constantly evolving and dares his audience to join him on the journey. Those who are able to be touched by a genuine artist whose primary goal is to touch the heart and soul with his music will enjoy the ride.
"Between 1972 and 1982 Maazel was Music Director of The Cleveland Orchestra and between 1973-79 made a series of recordings for Decca – all of which are collected here. The repertory includes many orchestral spectaculars and Decca’s first recording in Cleveland, Prokofiev’s Romeo and Juliet, is one of the very best and a recording which has achieved reference status. “…. The precision of The Cleveland Orchestra is little short of miraculous… the recording is one of Decca’s most spectacular, searingly detailed but atmospheric too.”
25th anniversary reissue of this unique coming together of Brian Eno and ex-Public Image Limited bass player Jah Wobble, also featuring Jaki Liebezeit from Can on drums. Starting life as the soundtrack to Derek Jarman’s 'Glitterbug', Eno passed stereo mixes of the film cues to Wobble who embellished and built upon them to construct the 'Spinner' tracks. The resulting fusion combines icy ambience with a kind of psychogeographical funk.
