On the occasion of the fortieth anniversary of the release, Franco Battiato's disc was reprinted on 19 July 2019. The era of the white boar - 40th Anniversary Remastered Edition (1979-2019) on Universal. The album - which in the original version was released on September 10th - marks the pop turning point of the Sicilian artist and is considered by many to be a transitional masterpiece, between past and future, between experimental prog and intellectual pop totally influenced by New Wave. In fact, in the work there are many references to esotericism, exoticism, spirituality, to the philosophy of René Guenon, who defined the era of the white boar as "a mythological and magical age, during which every man reaches absolute knowledge in a spiritual sense".

A huge live recording that is making a great dissection of Angelo Branduardi's career (up to 'Gulliver'). This lengthy live record is a bit of an oddity: for a folk or progressive rock or italian music enthusiast it could be considered a gem. The biggest flaw - in my opinion - is actually the same characteristic that could be applied to the entirey Branduardi's catalogue - it's a bit soft , even from a folk point of view I think it's often missing the 'beef'. But don't let that discourage you, it's not 'new agey', and it's not to poppy neither. Musicianship is great - and if you enjoy RENAISSANCE for their technical side, you will enjoy this one too, it's only less 'hollow'.

Raymond Leppard's recording … has remained for me the benchmark against which other recordings are measured … Janet Baker sings brilliantly as Ariodante. She flies through the coloratura with ease and presents a complete portrayal of the title character … Edith Mathis is a strong Ginevra, beautifully sung. We easily believe that she has the strength to resist Polinesso but is vulnerable enough to despair at the unjust accusations leveled against her … And with Samuel Ramey in his prime we have an excellent King of Scotland.
