This is the second edition of the collaboration between ACT and Château Palmer—one of the most legendary Grands Crus from Bordeaux’s Left Bank.

Lars Jansson is a jazz pianist, composer, arranger and educator. He was born in 1951, and grew up in Örebro, Sweden, where he was bored by his lessons at the community music school. In his early teens, a relative lent him records with Miles Davis, Ben Webster, and Mose Allison, creating a solid foundation for his musical education. Jansson s career has been in full flourish since 1970, and he has for the main part been focusing on the trio format. Lars Jansson Trio has long been one of the most renowned jazz groups in his native Sweden and the rest of Scandinavia as well.

Most of the music on this album are new compositions. All the songs are dedicated in some way or another to family members, friends, and musicians, but most of all to the Japanese people. Koan, used in the Zen Rinzai sect of Buddhism, is a method of questions and answers to evaluate a monk's state of spirituality, such as ""What is the sound of one hand clapping?"" For me, music is a kind of Koan. You can of course analyse music in terms of form, tonality, rhythm, and chords, but the experience of it and how music affects people is beyond our rational understanding. Shikantaza is the highest, purest form of zazen, which is to rest in a state of brightly alert attention that is free of thoughts and objects. I have always loved and respected the Japanese people and their culture. I would like to honour the victims of the 2011 tsunami with this music.

Pianist Lars Jansson recently cleared out the music room of his home in Gothenburg, on Sweden's west coast, and in the process, found some old songs he'd written but forgotten. Inspired by Marcel Proust's epic novel, A la recherche du temps perdu, he put them together with some new ones to create an album that sheds new and often surprising light on the familiar territory of piano jazz.

Anyone who has followed pianist and composer Lars Jansson with some degree of attention and reflection can hardly have missed noticing his ability to ignore the pressure of musical fashion and the more or less superficial dogmas of "renewal" to keep pace wit the times, and instead to create music that is immediate, singable, full of polished musical finesse and not, least, characterised by having its own unique expressions. In this process, he quite simply relies on his own constantly deepening perspectives regarding the cornerstones of music, filtered through his particular artistic temperament.

One of France and Europe's most distinguished film composers, Vladimir Cosma scored more than 150 films and TV productions. Although he enjoyed almost immediate success in comedies, he continued to experiment with different styles and genres, and this versatility brought him wide international acclaim.
