Bertha Thompson links up with union organizer "Big" Bill Shelley after the death of her father. Running afoul of anti-union forces, Bertha and Shelley are forced into a life of crime. Whereas Bonnie and Clyde robbed banks, Boxcar Bertha's specialty is trains. A story of this nature can only end in tragedy, and wait until you see Carradine's symbolic demise! For the record, there really was a Boxcar Bertha Thompson, and it is her autobiography, Sister of the Road, that serves as the basis for Joyce and John Corrington's screenplay.

Myrtle Gordon is a Broadway actress rehearsing for her latest play, SECOND WOMAN, which concerns a woman who is unable to admit that she is aging. When a beautiful young fan gets hit by a car while trying to chase Myrtle down, she begins to ponder her own mortality, seeing visions of the young girl. This prompts Myrtle to challenge the playwright and director as to the play's overriding hopelessness; when opening night approaches, it appears that she has lost touch with reality.

When he is discovered, Eliska is forced to leave the hospital in order to hide from the Nazis. Her colleague Dr. Chladek sends her off with mountain man Joza, who had been a patient in the hospital. Under the name Hana, Eliska travels with Joza to the tiny Moravian village of Zelary. They live in a modest cabin for two years, waiting for the Nazi occupation to end. Based on true events.
