CeDell Davis is an 88 year old delta blues legend whose ancient, dusty voice sounds as rich as the Mississippi Delta he grew up next to. Recorded on location in Water Valley, Mississippi, Last Man Standing contains songs from his storied 70 year career, with an all-star backing band that includes Screaming Trees/Mad Season/Walking Papers drummer Barrett Martin, Squirrel Nut Zippers guitarist Jimbo Mathus, Zipper's bassist Stu Cole, and blues guitarists Zakk and Greg Binns. This 2 CD set also contains CeDell's 2002 live album ''When Lightnin' Struck The Pine'' featuring REM's Peter Buck on guitar and Barrett Martin on drums. This a must have collection for anyone who loves the dirty delta blues, because CeDell Davis is one of the greats.

For reasons unknown – and largely beyond comprehension – producers rejected Elmer Bernstein's completed score for Walter Hill's 1996 Yojimbo remake Last Man Standing in favor of an inappropriate electronic score by the otherwise unimpeachable Ry Cooder. Since both versions have been released, it's possible to compare them side by side, although it's difficult to fathom what the producers were thinking – a vivid orchestral effort wrought from classical cinematic idioms, Bernstein's menacing atmosphere seems perfectly attuned to Hill's violent milieu.

'Last Man Standing,' comprised entirely of songs newly-penned by Willie Nelson (and longtime collaborator and producer Buddy Cannon), is the worthy successor to Willie's 'God's Problem Child,' which showcased seven Nelson-Cannon compositions and debuted at #1 on the Country charts. Willie and Buddy have been working together since 2008 with Cannon producing more than a dozen of Willie's albums.
