Laurent de Wilde Over The Clouds

This project showcases a union between two artists expressing their infinite love of the piano after years of joint concerts and international collaboration.

After a magnificent tribute to Thelonious Monk with the same partners a few years ago, Laurent de Wilde returns to us in a trio setting with a repertoire that is entirely his own, except for a theme co-composed with his drummer Donald Kontomanou.

Dividing his time between the United States and France, Laurent de Wilde has found a welcoming audience in both countries. His third solo album, Open Changes, resulted in de Wilde receiving a Django Reinhardt Award for Best French Musician of 1992. In addition to leading his own group, de Wilde has worked as a session player for Reggie Workman, Ralph Moore, Greg Osby, Joshua Redman, Dee Dee Bridgewater, Aldo Romano, André Ceccarelli, Harold Land, and Tom Harrell. In 1987, he recorded the first of a series of four albums for Ida Records “Off The Boat“ with Eddie Henderson, Ralph Moore, empowered by Ira Coleman on bass and Billy Hart on drums. In 1989, “Odd And Blue” is released with Coleman and Jack DeJohnette (drums) followed in 1990 by “Colors of Manhattan”, with Coleman, Henderson and Lewis Nash…

This CD brings together recent works by Edith Canat de Chizy, all written between 2011 and 2013. The three scores were inspired by the idea of movement / tempo / motion – a lightening gesture in Pierre D’eclair, the sphere of influence relayed by the electronics in Over the Sea, and the dialectic between mobile and immobile in Drift.

Laurent de Wilde (born in Washington, D.C. in 1960) is a French jazz pianist, composer and writer. In 1987, he recorded the first of a series of four albums for Ida Records Off the Boat with Eddie Henderson, Ralph Moore, backed by Ira Coleman on bass and Billy Hart on drums. In 1989, Odd and Blue was released with Coleman and Jack DeJohnette (drums), followed in 1990 by Colors of Manhattan, with Coleman, Henderson and Lewis Nash. In 1995, de Wilde signed with Sony Jazz (Columbia) and recorded The Back Burner.
