UK collection of tracks from this '60s French chanteuse. From French parentage and good Royal stock (Prince Philip was her godfather), she quickly rose to 1962/1963's Pop royalty with former Shadow Tony Meehan as her recording manager producing her one and only hit, Jerry Lordan's cute as they come 'I'm Just a Baby'. She further boasted an address book that contained Paul McCartney, who she regularly hully gullied with, and Gerry Marsden, who wrote the Pacemakers' subsequent hit, 'Don't Let the Sun Catch You Crying', especially for her. A bit of a Mersey beat pin up, Louise would tour with both the Beatles and Gerry and the Pacemakers later that year. The Sweet Beat of Louise Cordet collects together all of Louise's recordings for the UK Decca label including her last single featuring two very different sides to Louise - Dionne Warwick's dramatic 'Don't Make Me Over' paired with possibly her best recording, a beat style workout of Mary Wells' lyrically adventurous Motown track 'Two Lovers' featuring Jimmy Page on guitar. It was on 18 July 1668 that Moliere successfully performed George Dandin ou le mari confondu, a play mixed with a sung pastoral, for “Le Grand Divertissement Royal de Versailles” offered by Louis XIV to his Court, as a celebration of the Peace of Aachen. This amusing story of a rich peasant who purchases a young noble girl includes interludes set to the splendid music of Lully. The same year sees the promisaing meeting between Lully and Quinault: together they write for the King La Grotte de Versailles, in which Louis is glorified, and dances in person the role of a nymph.

Come Ready And See Me is the 2007 album by singer Louise Rogers. Gottfried Stoger, Paul Meyers, and Rick Strong are some of the individuals who back her up on this in a recording made by Rilo.

Recording an album is always an amazing adventure, this time even more so, and we are very grateful to everyone who made this album possible. But why was it so special? Firstly, because of the choice of program, of little known, exciting works, and secondly due to the fact that this project was overshadowed by the Covid-19 pandemic. Finally, there is the special significance that each of these works has attained precisely under the current circumstances.

Dornel’s imaginative and dynamic compositional style was perfectly suited to the lively and ever-changing musical environment of Paris in the first decades of the eighteenth century. The glorious years of Louis XIV’s reign were coming to a close, and with it the Sun King’s uncompromising grip on permitted musical taste was beginning to weaken. As musical life at the royal court began to decline so the hub of French musical life shifted from Versailles to Paris, and a strong sense of new found freedom prevailed in the city’s cultured circles. The relative merits of French and Italian musical styles were hotly debated, and works by the likes of Corelli and Vivaldi became well known and were eagerly consumed. In addition, a tradition of public concerts (including Philidor’s famous Concert Spirituel) began in Paris, giving visiting artists from far afield a chance to demonstrate their skills as well as giving composers a chance to air new works. Dornel’s Pièces de clavecin were published in 1731. His keyboard pieces were highly praised in the Mercure de France, and are notable for how little they owe to Rameau’s seminal 1724 collection. Instead the influence of François Couperin’s Ordres from fifteen years or so before is much more strongly discernible.
