One of the greatest living Chicago blues guitarists, Lurrie Bell's last two CDs have been about stretching him (successfully) to showcase the breadth as well as the magnitude of his art. However for this project he just wanted to get back to the solid foundation of Chicago-styled traditional guitar blues, done with his rare blend of reverence, involvement and individuality and framed largely by his working band.

A fiery and intense blend of Rock, Blues, and psych-folk. Be aware - from the vocals, to the guitars, to the lyrics - this is an adventurous Rockabluesic journey that will crawl into your brain cells. This album takes you on an adventure: from the cold tundra of a hard world to the passions of real love. It snakes through the swamp, passes through love’s playgrounds, gets lost in the mist of a forest, and ends up in a flame of fire and light. Robert’s brand of music, Rockabluesic, is punctuated by some of the best guitar you will ever hear. On top of that, the vocals can be haunting or bone-shaking. It has been variously described as breathtaking, life-changing, soothing, and powerful enough to drive a railroad spike. One thing is certain: it will take you to places you’ve always wanted to believe existed.

A Rise In The Road, the Yellowjackets’ second Mack Avenue Records offering, is indeed an appropriate title for a time-honored jazz ensemble that has never been fearful of facing newer musical horizons, not to mention the myriad challenges of life itself. Throughout their storied 32-year history, the Yellowjackets have undergone numerous lineup changes, never failing to rise to the inevitable challenges of adjustment. Felix Pastorius is the newest Yellowjackets member. He is the son of legendary jazz bassist Jaco Pastorius, most known for his affiliation with jazz-fusion contemporaries, Weather Report.

This was Johnson's final album before his death in 1976, and it was originally cut for Black and Blue (now reissued with three bonus tracks). While various tracks reflect the influence of Muddy Waters, Jimmy Reed and John Lee Hooker, Johnson's own inimitable vocals, raspy lines and tart guitar eventually create his own aura. He is nicely backed by drummer Fred Below, bassist Dave Myers, guitar burner Lonnie Brooks and the solid rhythm work of Hubert Sumlin. This was a fine session for a good, occasionally outstanding blues artist.
