Dorone Paris is a composer and saxophone player specialising in New Music and Avant Garde performance. Being raised in Israel influenced her political ideas and affected her musical creativity, aesthetics and philosophy. Dorone’s work has been performed throughout West and Eastern Europe, North Africa and the Middle East. She now lives and works in Ireland. In the words of the composer, COAL explores the vast colours and possibilities of saxophones by examining and channelling the compounded challenges of the last several years: from a climate crisis to a global pandemic to the possibility of an international nuclear war. As such, some of the soundworlds in this album are harsh and unforgiving, a call for light. Her collaboration with Saxophonist Noam Dorembus has been shaped by the words of their mentor Arie Shapira: “It is necessary to invent new parameters of listening.

Avital meets Avital is a dialogue between two musicians who come from different worlds but share a common richness of musical heritage. Grammy-nominee mandolinist, Avi Avital, comes from a classical tradition whilst award-winning bass virtuoso and oud player, Omer Avital, is an acclaimed jazz performer and composer. In Avital meets Avital, these two musicians, joined by Omer Klein on piano and Itamer Doari on percussion, draw on the diverse influences of Moroccan and North African sounds, folkloric and classical traditions, Israeli harmonies and Mediterranean rhythms creating a musical melting pot where the finesse of chamber music meets the raw emotional energy of jazz.

With an incredible virtuosity, he distills a jazz infused with rock, with classical music, with klezmer tones, changing with equal success from an original composition to a piece taken from Israel’s musical heritage or to a revival of David Bowie, Radiohead or Nirvana. This unique and modern approach of music, enhanced by the ardour and dexterity of the musicians that surround him, makes Uriel Herman one of the most exciting pianists of the current scene.
