After devoting a disc to sonatas by Giuseppe Tartini, for this anniversary year of the illustrious Paduan virtuoso, Evgeny Sviridov offers us a recording of violin concertos. This is his first collaboration with Millenium Orchestra, the ensemble founded by Leonardo García Alarcón in the framework of CAVEMA in Namur. Most of the concertos selected come from manuscript copies made in eighteenth-century Germany, where Tartini's reputation was very high. Evgeny Sviridov has found in these scores cadenzas and ornaments which are very probably in the hand of Johann Georg Pisendel, the great virtuoso violinist of the Dresden court, a friend (and interpreter) of Johann Sebastian Bach!

Julie Roset, a young French soprano from Avignon, immediately attracted attention with her first recital for Ricercar (Nun danket alle Gott with Clematis) and went on to record a recital of works by Sigismondo d'India with Mariana Flores that met with great critical acclaim. In this new recording she tackles several of Handel's masterpieces on religious themes: his Salve Regina, Gloria and the motet Silete venti were all composed at the time when the young Handel had been inspired to new heights by his discovery of Roman musical life.

The Requiem "composed for no particular purpose…", as Gabriel Fauré wrote, was performed for the first time in the Madeleine Church in Paris on 16 January 1888, "for the funeral of some parishioner"! It is this original performance version, without the Offertory and the Libera me, with accompaniment provided only by a string ensemble (violas, cellos and double bass), organ and harp, that is presented here in a world premiere recording. The Messe des pêcheurs de Villerville (1881), composed in Normandy in collaboration with André Messager, is far removed from the solemnities of the great Parisian church; its original version was written for women's voices with harmonium and violin accompaniment.

Millenium is a Polish five-piece neo-progressive band with Polish vocals on their 1st album and English vocals dominating after their 2nd production, generally in the Pendragon and early MarIllion styles but also with some spices of Pink Floyd and classical Genesis. There are influences of older Polish bands like Collage (as you can in every Polish neo-prog band).
In order to promote their new album Exist (2008) the band went on tour in 2009 and then released a double live CD in 2010.

Millenium's third release “Hourglass” features former Vagabond, The Snakes and Ark vocalist Jorn Lande. “Hourglass” has received an incredible amount of hype in regards to this release and the Millenium delivers a memorable CD from the very first listen. The band has progressed considerably from their initial release when they were known as Eyewitness. The addition of Lande as lead vocalist has only improved an already impressive group of musicians.

No talent who came out of Woodstock and who continued actively performing more than a quarter century later remained as closely associated with the 1960s and "flower power" than Melanie. Born Melanie Safka in Astoria, Queens, in 1947, she made her first public appearance at age four on a radio show, later studying at the New York Academy of Fine Arts. After mounting a singing career while in college, she later sang in clubs in Greenwich Village, and was signed to a publishing contract in 1967. She recorded her first single, "Beautiful People," for Columbia Records that same year. Her relationship with the record company was short-lived, however, and after one more single she left the label. In 1969, she chanced to meet producer Peter Schekeryk, and after a hastily arranged audition, he took charge of her career.

A popular singer of tearful ballads and jaunty up-tempo numbers; one of the most successful artists of the 1950s and '60s. Connie Francis is the prototype for the female pop singer of today. At the height of her chart popularity in the late '50s and early '60s, Francis was unique as a female recording artist, amassing record sales equal to or surpassing those of many of her male contemporaries. Ultimately, she branched into other styles of music – big band, country, ethnic, and more. She still challenges Madonna as the biggest-selling female recording artist of all time.

In 2009 the Polish progressive rock band Millenium released their first official live DVD and double CD. They named it Back After Years, Live In Krakow 2009 (see review). It was a rather entertaining release on which the band and their fans looked back on their entire back catalogue. Now seven years later the band comes up with another live release, titled The Cinema Show. Again you can enjoy a double CD version next to a DVD release of the same show. However this time around even a Blu-ray version can be ordered.
