Monty Alexander has been one of the most popular pianists in jazz for over 50 years. Early on, his outstanding technique and wide-ranging playing were compared to the great Oscar Peterson. His unique style was to take him to the most famous stages around the world. Brought on by Oscar Peterson himself, the young Jamaican recorded his first album for MPS in 1971 - many more were to follow. "The Best Of The MPS Years" offers a cross-section of this era with all the highlights of the MPS albums!

On this Concord CD, pianist Monty Alexander performs religious hymns plus a few of his originals that also fit comfortably in that tradition. Accompanied by bassist John Clayton and drummer Ed Thigpen, Alexander's sensitive, but generally swinging, interpretations of these timeless melodies communicate very well.

Before he left us in July 2, 2002, Ray Brown reigned as the king of jazz bassists for over five decades. As a disciple of Oscar Pettiford and Jimmy Blanton, Brown's sturdy tone, impeccable technique, and swinging drive propelled Ella Fitzgerald, Oscar Peterson, Milt Jackson, and countless other jazz stars to fame. On this CD, his 18th recording for the Telarc label and his fifth in his celebrated Best Friends series, Brown is joined by the young guitar wizard Russell Malone and the lyrical, Jamaican-born pianist Monty Alexander. The drumless lineup is a tribute to the groundbreaking trios Brown lead with Oscar Peterson, and the music is simply remarkable. With Alexander's flowing pianisms shadowed by Malone's articulate guitar work, Brown's deep grooves are only topped by his flawless melodic ideas.

An Incredible Experience of Freedom June 6, 2024, will mark the 80th anniversary of the Normandy Landings. It's also the day the Grammy© nominated pianist Monty Alexander turns 80. A highly symbolic historical concordance which the great musician naturally embraces, since the name he was given pays homage to General Montgomery, the famous liberator. The album D-Day is the fruit of intertwining friendships and artistic collusion often observed between Monty Alexander, the French touring agency V.O Music, and the label PeeWee! It contains a number of iconic compositions written in wartime and original tracks: *I'll Never Smile Again, written in 1939, a Frank Sinatra hit throughout the Second World War. *Smile, written by Charlie Chaplin for his film Modern Times in 1936: Smile, though your heart is aching, Smile, even though it's breaking, When there are clouds in the sky, You'll get by. *D-Day (Just Wait), Why (that's why), River of Peace, Restoration… are Alexander's compositions inspired by the conflict and its extraordinary ending.
