Fado Tradicional is the fifth studio album by Portuguese fado singer Mariza, released on 29 November 2010 by EMI Music Portugal. It was recorded in the Lisboa Estúdios in Portugal between July and September 2010 and produced by musician Diogo Clemente. Fado Tradicional received positive reviews from music critics, both in Portugal and internationally. Fado Tradicional was a certified platinum record in Portugal on the day of its release, for the sale of more than 20,000 copies.

Produced by Javier Limón (multiple Grammy winner and producer of the record “Terra”, released in 2008), “Mundo” features 14 songs, including the singles “Paixão”, “Melhor de Mim” and “Alma”.

When she played in the UK in March, Mariza announced that her next album of new material – her first in almost five years – would have “a different concept”. It’s true, but it’s remarkable not for her choice of songs, rather the quality of her singing. Her last set, Fado Tradicional, was over-declamatory and failed to do justice to her highly emotional live performances. Now comes an album dominated by “musical fado” – in which different songs are given the traditional treatment – and her approach is transformed. From the thoughtful Rio de Mágoa to the delicate opening to Paixão, this is a more relaxed, personal and intimate Mariza.

This is the second album of Mariza. Following up on her 2001 debut, Fado em Mim, which catapulted the young singer from Lisbon to a pinnacle of worldwide critical and popular acclaim, Fado Curvo will delight fado aficionados and novices alike. There are some fados, which are true to the traditional style both melancholic and folklore - Primavera, Vielas de Alfma, Feira de Castro and Fado Curvo. However, she also pushes the fado style to a new level and dimension, that has jazz influences - this can be heard in O Silencio da guitarra, Retrato, Entre o rio e a razao. Backed by some of the finest musicians in the field, including a rather untraditional trumpet, bass and piano section on several songs, Mariza has given us a fresh, vibrant and altogether satisfying album in Fado Curvo.
