Different Rooms is a collection of songs and musical motifs we composed, edited, and collaged in the weeks between late 2024 and early 2025. Most of the recorded material was performed during that editing process, except for live performances taken from improvisations we recorded with Jeff Parker and Josh Johnson some time in 2023. In our typical process, much of our material is collaged and combines moments of live improvisation, field recordings, and in-studio experimentation. This record, however, marks an evolution in our approach to studio production.

The everyday is transfigured in this intimate collection of chamber music and songs by leading young Scottish composer Martin Suckling – settings for mezzo-soprano and piano of five magical, moonlit poems by Michael Donaghy and a string quintet written in collaboration with the poet Frances Leviston, whose readings of her own texts frame the four movements of a piece which pays dual homage to Schubert and to Emily Dickinson.

This disc presents the first recording of the Canzonettas & Cantatas Op.3 by Giovanni Battista Mazzaferrata (c.1640-1691), an Italian composer and organist from Pavia, the pupil of Tarquinio Merula.

Forest Light is the band around Italian singer Marta Arpini. The quintet is in search of a unique and individual sound that connects the musicians' imagery and intensive playing. They use Marta's material and invigorate a special universe of deep enchantment. The group combines the suggestive atmosphere of the world of the songwriter with the intensive collaboration characterising jazz, explores unique and individual colours and develops a quaint cross-over language in order to tell meaningful stories through the purity of the "songs".
