Jef Martens – better known by his stage name Basto – is a Belgian record producer, musician and DJ.

The Fluyten Lust-hof is the most extensive collection of pieces for a wind instrument ever created. During the period of transition from the Renaissance to the Baroque, the bell expert and recorder virtuoso, Jacob van Eyck, blind from birth, dictated his approximately 150 diminutions of well-known church and folk melodies in order that they could be published.

Published in Amsterdam in the mid-seventeenth century, Der Fluyten Lust-Hof ("The Garden of Flute Delights") is a collection of variations for solo flute on the "hits" of European music of the time, borrowed from such composers as Caccini, Dowland, Bull and Moulinié. Its Dutch compiler, Jacob van Eyck, was born blind. As carillonist of Utrecht Cathedral, subsequently in charge of all the city’s chimes of bells, he made fundamental advances in acoustics and bell tuning. Despite this busy activity, he also found time to play the recorder as a virtuoso, especially "to entertain strollers in the garden of St John’s Church in the evening with the sound of his little flute". It was probably the repertory built up in this context that he published under the title Der Fluyten Lust-Hof. For this recording, François Lazarevitch uses instruments characteristic of Van Eyck’s time: not only the recorder, but also and above all cylindrical transverse flutes, as well as a seventeenth-century musette.

She explodes on stage like a force of nature, only to croon a moving ballad into the mike at the very next moment. Jessy Martens' distinctive voice does not have to fear comparison with that of Amy Winehouse or Tina Turner: she has long developed her own style. Starting up in late 2010, live wire Jessy Martens and her band very quickly rose to the top of the rock and blues scene. Winning the DEUTSCHER ROCKPREIS 2012 (“GERMAN ROCK AWARD 2012”) for best rock band/best rock singer and the GERMAN BLUES AWARDS 2012/2014 for best blues band / best blues singer, as well as receiving the award for best blues album of the year for her songwriting debut “Brand New Ride”, are a testament to the unanimous enthusiasm of audiences and the press. The band has even made its way into mainstream radio: Jessy Martens & Band could be heard where you usually hear Bon Jovi and Lionel Richie: in a prime time radio concert in NDR2 (February 2015).
