Let's Get It On is the thirteenth studio album by American soul singer, songwriter, and producer Marvin Gaye. It was originally released on August 28, 1973 by the Motown Records subsidiary label Tamla. Recording sessions for the album took place during June 1970 to July 1973 at Hitsville U.S.A. and Golden World Studio in Detroit, and at Hitsville West in Los Angeles. Serving as Gaye's first venture into the funk genre and romance-themed music, Let's Get It On incorporates smooth soul, doo-wop, and quiet storm. It has been noted by critics for its sexually suggestive lyrics, and was cited by one writer as "one of the most sexually charged albums ever recorded".

Motown's 1986 double-LP, What's Going On/Let's Get It On combined Marvin Gaye's two best-known albums in one set. Although the moods of the two albums aren't necessarily compatible the first is a reflective social protest piece, the second, well, the title is self-explanatory it was an excellent bargain to have the two classic albums together.

The most commercially successful album of Marvin Gaye's career, "Let's Get It On" also stands among the artist's most critically acclaimed work. The record–the best selling soul album of 1973–reached #2 on the Billboard Chart and yielded three massive singles: "Let's Get It On", "Come Get to This", and "You Sure Love to Ball." The album was included in Rolling Stone's "500 Greatest Albums of All Time." It was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame in 2004.

In celebration of the Golden Anniversary of the iconic Marvin Gaye album “Let’s Get It On,” Motown/UMe is releasing digitally a revised and expanded “Let’s Get It On: Deluxe Edition” on August 25, the day before the album’s original release date in 1973 fifty years prior. Featuring a fascinating trove of 33 bonus tracks, 18 of them previously unreleased, the Prince of Soul’s creative explorations continued to unfold with the production of this pivotal release. Collectively, the bonus material leans into the story of Gaye’s multi-layered personal struggles during the album’s creation.
