BAFTA award winning actor Matt Berry returns with Television Themes. Inspired by his youth, it's a collection of TV theme tunes that have not only influenced Berry but undergone a fascinating and unique metamorphosis under his musical stewardship. Television Themes was recorded on his own and with his regular band The Maypoles in his newly built studio. It includes favorites from the '60s, '70s, and '80s such as Are You Being Served? and Rainbow alongside lesser known themes from Picture Box and Wildtrak amidst those that transcend the decades, Doctor Who and Top Of The Pops. Combining his love of music production and his passion for the 'signature tune', Television Themes sees Berry enhance his musical reputation following the success of his previous releases encapsulating Berry's formative years as a viewer and paired with his boundless appetite for music.
Following the recent release of the outstanding ‘Top Brass’ single, Matt Berry will release a further unique collaboration with esteemed Library Music label KPM: the full-length album ’Simplicity’, out 17 November 2023.
BAFTA award-winning Matt Berry has starred in number of high-profile television series, including FX's mockumentary What We Do In The Shadows. He has released 7 solo albums and collaborated with the likes of Bond composer David Arnold, Jean-Michel Jarre and Josh Homme. Recorded during the summer of 2020, Blue Elephant is a psych masterpiece and arguably his best album to date. With the exception of Craig Blundel on drums, every instrument is played by Matt including, guitars, bass and a variety of keyboards and synthesizers. The album explores themes surrounding today's close scrutiny in all it's bewildering, objectifying and unnerving experiences, and is a testament to Matt's exceptional musicianship, production skills and songwriting prowess.
Fresh from the red carpet, award-winning Matt Berry dusts off another of his many bows to bring us a stunning live album. Released through Acid Jazz Records, this record, which sees Matt perform his greatest musical moments, lands on shelves the same month that Matt Berry returns to our screens in his BAFTA award-winning comedy series The Toast Of London, placing him once more at the forefront of the public eye. This album is the perfect opportunity for fans to prepare themselves for the upcoming Matt Berry & The Maypoles tour in December.
Matt Berry's excellent 2016 album, The Small Hours, was another step toward establishing the comedic actor as a serious musical force with roots in indie pop, folk, prog, and psychedelia. The Night Terrors EP is a brief companion release comprising remixes and retakes from the album, plus a handful of new songs. Saint Etienne and Clark do very different things to the prog-jazz title track with their mixes, the former delving into some laid-back, funky grooves that aren't as much terrifying as they are tasty, while the latter takes the terror part seriously and turns the song into something that sounds like whirling knife blades, possessed wind-up dolls, and scream-inducing jump cuts.
For the first time on CD, Matt Berry’s popular album Opium is available to purchase. Following the release of the limited edition Opium vinyl, we had endless requests for this album on CD from Matt fans. This a wonderful album, melodic and strangely enchanting.
